“TURN ON THE LIGHTS”
Crowd Funding Campaign
Who We Are
Tampa Heights Unites is a collaborative community effort organized to benefit the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association's Church Renovation Project. Our purpose is to build public awareness and assist in fundraising for the transformative renovation of a historic church into a new Youth Development and Community Center.
What We Need
- We are seeking to raise $5,000 for the "Turn on the Lights" crowd funding campaign. The funds raised will enable us to buy lights and light fixtures for the church building. In order to finish the renovations of the building an additional $50,000 in funding is needed. The $50,000 would help finish plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, and drywall in the building.
- If we are unable to reach our $5,000 goal, we will use the amount raised to purchase as many lights and light fixtures as possible. If we surpass our goal the additional funds would be used to assist in completing other needed areas of renovation.
Why Help Us
The "Turn on the Lights" crowd funding campaign is a small way we can give back to our community. As active USF School of Business alumni graduates we were taught in Business school that success is not only measured in our personal lives but also on the impact we make on our community and the lives of others. We believe investing in our youth is critical to building sustainable communities for the future. This Church renovation project caught our interest because it not only preserves an old Tampa landmark but also converts it into a resourceful community center geared towards investing in the education of our youth. The new community center will be a vehicle for providing out of school educational programs to children in an underserved community. We are truly passionate about this project and with your assistance we can contribute in making a difference in the lives of our youth and help build a better community.
To build a sustainable and impactful youth development and community center that will provide the necessary infrastructure to support, develop and mentor youth ages 11-18 in the Tampa Heights community.
Product and Service:
Youth Development and Community Center (YDCC) will provide the necessary infrastructure for Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association (THJCA) to administer its various youth development programs in the areas of: leadership, business and entrepreneurship, workforce and college preparation, technology training and financial literacy development. In conjunction with the City of Tampa, THJCA has been granted a lease on a historic church originally built in 1905. The 9,055 sq ft building is to be renovated and converted into the youth development and community center.
Tampa Heights is the oldest suburb in the city of Tampa. Strategically located just north of downtown, it is a major part of the city of Tampa’s redevelopment plans. It has an estimated youth population of 2,000 with approximately 1,300 living below the poverty level. Currently there are no other operational community centers in the Tampa Heights Neighborhood.
