About Syndee Winters
Broadway performer, Syndee Winters' journey to the stage began at an early age. New York born; Miami raised, her passion for performing began at the radio. Shortly after graduating from Palmetto Sr. High in Miami, Florida, Syndee returned to New York and studied theater at Five Towns College, while simultaneously performing at the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden as a member of the New York Knicks City Dancers. It wasn't too long before the bright lights of Broadway were calling. Starring as "Nala" in hit Broadway Musical, Disney's The Lion King, Syndee quickly realized the power of performance and how it quickly impacts people. The Lena Horne concert idea was born from a conversation between Syndee and a fellow performer friend after her recent departure from The Lion King. " I wanted to produce this concert but feared that because Lena Horne was such an icon that I would not be able to do it justice." With a swift pep talk from her peers, the journey to Lena began.
In the midst of Syndee's research, Broadway called again, this time, to perform in a show that seemed right in line with the Lena Horne project, Motown: The Musical. Syndee is currently portraying legendary Motown artist "Mary Wells", and is honored to be apart of a production that single handedly shaped the sound of American pop music and reflected many socio-political issues in American History. "Meeting Berry Gordy, was memorable for me. As a performer of color and knowing that he, along with Lena Horne, were important figures who were advocates for the enhancement of people of color in America."
The WHY behind this project.
Lena Horne had a great passion to affect and inspire people. This concert, is the most affective way to share her story. Lena Horne's early career is one of the most important stories in American entertainment history, especially Black entertainment history. Syndee Winters is delighted to bring Lena back for a special night, returning a touch of class, elegance, and vivacious spirit to entertainment. "Lena Horne was beauty and elegance personified. She also embodies the facets of a true Lady," says Syndee.
History and culture is all we have to pass onto future generations. Preserving Lena’s Legacy is important because she was one of the first of many to break ground and change the world of entertainment.
