Strange New World is a short film based on a strange idea that hit Maggie Jung, one sleep-deprived night as she was illuminated by the glowing screens of her ipad, iphone and macbook.

She recalled her past experiences while traversing the bizarre, and sometimes hostile landscape that is the internet. She then realized how the the internet had its own laws, its own logic...a whole new virtual realm that humanity has so easily adapted to. An alternate world that mirrors reality, and yet...it is profoundly different in every possible way.

Re-imagining human interaction online in the context of real life was highly disturbing and also, completely hilarious. And so, to share these terrifying laughs,  she decided to turn her idea into a movie.

This film is for:

  • Every poor wanderer who stumbled on an image that scarred them for life.
  • Every unfortunate soul who had an accidental conversation with an aroused stranger.
  • Every person to has google to blame for their hypochondriacal tendencies.
  • Every lonely soul who finds it impossible to find love, even in a massive pool of four million members.
  • Every tormented individual who loses faith in humanity every time they log onto facebook.

THE DIRECTOR

Maggie Jung

It was a moist spring evening in New York city, when Maggie Jung prematurely forced her way out of her mother at the tender age of 8 months. She then proceeded to live in New Jersey, California, Korea, and finally, Hong Kong, where she started and completed puberty, high school and a substantial number of short stories and drawings. After taking a class called Film Studies in her junior year, it came to her as a massive revelation that people make movies for a living. And so it was decided. She threw out her dream of becoming a chair designer and decided to combine two of her obsessions, story and pictures, and just do that for the rest of her life. She now goes to NYU, learning how to make movies, eating hummus by the bucketful, and every day she dreams of telling happy little stories to the rest of the world.
