We Love Stompin' Tom!
We’re a non-profit group of ordinary folks, from the land of Sudbury Saturday Night, and huge Stompin’ Tom fans. Our goal is simple: We want to honour Stompin’ Tom Connors with a life-sized, bronze statue in downtown Sudbury, Ontario, near arts and hockey venues.
And we hope to say that Canadians participated, from every city and town in Canada, coast to coast!
We’ve already raised more than 20% of our $50,000 goal locally, and we’re going to have some pretty lively fundraisers here in Sudbury. But, Stompin’ Tom belonged to all of Canada. He sang OUR stories, from the legend of Big Joe Mufferaw to the devotion of Hockey Moms across the land. He was authentic and raw, and we miss this true Canadian voice.
A local sculptor, Tyler Fauvelle (see photo, above), has finished sculpting the life-sized artwork in clay. It's now at the foundry, for casting in bronze.
Please join in...When the sculpture’s unveiled, we want to say: Hello there! And thanks to people from every city and town in Canada!
How do we thank you for your contribution?
We’ve designed a special logo, exclusively for buttons, T-shirts and plaques, so that you can proudly show you participated in paying tribute to Tom...Show off your T-shirt at the next sporting event or concert you go to! Get your office buddies together, and earn a plaque for the coffee room...If your Mom spent years taking you to hockey and cheering for you in a cold arena, play the Hockey Mom song for her, and give her a button! (And a hug!)
If you send $10, we’ll know you’re thinking of Stompin’ Tom, and we promise to tip a hat to his statue in your honour. (There’ll be a photo on our Facebook page.)
For something really special...The artist, Tyler Fauvelle, created a limited edition art resin sculpture exclusively for this project. Tyler says that the artwork, called “Dear Canada”, is inspired by the final letter Tom Connors wrote to his fans. The edition is limited to 45, and is not for sale. We’re sending them as a “thank you” to those who contribute at least $500 ($425 for you Early Birds) to this commemoration. Each piece is numbered, and comes with a commemoration certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist. “Dear Canada” measures 8” high, and is hand-finished in verdigris.
“Stompin’ Tom’s music was inspired by the vivid beauty of our country, and he sang the extraordinary stories of ordinary people. The guitar stock in the sculpture bends toward the flames of the maple leaf, forming a heart-space, and representing the passion of the patriotic torch Tom held before our eyes, and hoped we would keep ablaze. Tom Connors loved Canada, and it’s as simple – and as complicated – as that. The verdigris finish suggests legacy, and a certain roughness, because Tom’s road was rarely easy. His famous hat is represented here, of course, resting by the guitar – close to the music, where it belongs.”
Tyler is donating thirty-five of the limited edition to this Indiegogo campaign, and encourages all of Stompin’ Tom’s friends to help with this tribute – please pass the word along!
Give them something to talk about! Come to the unveiling! No kidding – check out the $3,000 and $5,000 Touring packages. We’d be so glad to see you, friends.
Are you not too far from Sudbury, and do you like a great party? Well, for $200 ($175 for the Early Birds), you get a special invitation to the unveiling, and to the Sudbury Saturday Night unveiling party at the famous Townehouse here in Sudbury. If you want us to, we’ll introduce you at the party, and present you with a T-shirt and a button. (We’re working out the details, but you’ll have at least one month’s notice.)
Thank you for being a part of Tom’s “Stompin’ Ground”!
