Have you ever wanted to just walk into a quiet sanctuary in the middle of the day, sit down for ten or fifteen minutes and listen to your heartbeat, or gather your wits after experiencing the craziness of the world?
STILL BREATHING MEDITATION CENTER is a community sanctuary of peace in the
midst of East Oakland, CA where you can just sit on your own or with others. Just an oasis for time to breathe. And for those who want it, we offer meditation instruction, classes, and formal services. stillbreathingmeditation.org
OAKLAND, OAKLAND, OAKLAND...
This campaign is
important to Oakland. It is important that there is a visible place in the midst of nearby gunfire that says there is peace. We need $20,000 to help bring the awareness of peace in Oakland.
DONATIONS TO CENTER WORKERS
The Center is fully community operated and I would like to see hard working community workers receive donations as the teacher will. That's right donations to community folk. Yes, donations will come in and be shared with those who set up the center, keep it clean, greet the faces, and keep the sanity :)GRATITUDE /|\
My partner Simbwala Schultz and I have spent money out of our pockets, sleepless nights talking about the Center, and time sitting inside the space breathing it in. Now we need help. We
need $20,000 for rent, utilities, and donations to community folks who will hold the
space open for those who want to sit. How do we reach $20,000 - 20
people at $1,000 would do it! 100 people at $200 would to it! Of
course going over $20,000 we would say yes, yes, yes! And we touch the earth with gratitude for your most honored gift.
THAT'S ME GRINNING :0
Who would have
thought that a black girl child from Los Angeles, raised by parents with
Louisiana Creole heritage, would become an ordained Zen Buddhist priest and
open up such a place in the 21st century? Not me. But here I am. Yes, that's me grinning.... But this Center is not centered on me. It's for everyone. I just thought you might want to see my face. You can go to zenju.org and see more but you must come to have tea with sometime.

To join us or
enter this sanctuary it is not necessary to be or become Buddhist, a meditator,
Zen, or anything else. Everyone comes as they are. Sitting, walking, lying
down, for ten, fifteen, an hour or two is an act of compassion–a simple way of
caring for one's life. I purposely did not list this campaign under religion because it's about community. It's about where we live, within and without.
Imagine feeling inside like the running water below even while walking on a busy city street like MacArthur Blvd in Oakland where the Center is and in a city environment where most of us live and breathe:
We will have family sits, potlucks, and music on periodic Saturdays, to support family life
and to help bring compassionate action in the world through relationships.
GIFTS TO YOU! If I could change the word Perks for my campaign I would. Gifts, gifts, gifts is what I would call it. I love to give gifts....
