All About Freedom Hill
Welcome to a heavenly 48 acres of fun and frolicking! Freedom Hill is a domestic farm animal sanctuary that is a dream of the Henleys, a wonderful, hard-working family living in Adelaide, Australia. Our mission is to rescue domestic farm animals from the horrors of the slaughterhouse, and give these animals a forever home at the Sanctuary.
Located in the Adelaide Hills, Freedom Hill Sanctuary is the first of its kind in South Australia, and it is currently home to 3 horses, 8 cows and calves, 5 sheep, 5 goats, 1 alpaca, as well as some dogs and chickens. This adds up to more than 22 animals that receive endless amounts of love and care! However, they also need large amounts of food, grooming, water, and shelter, and this is where the global community comes in. The Sanctuary does not receive any funding from the government, and so has to rely on contributions from compassionate people around the world in order to continue saving and taking care of neglected and abused farm animals – this means you!
What We Need and What You Get
Our current project is to build a small stable area for each horse, and fencing around the stables. This is especially important as Adelaide winters get very cold (average minimum of 8°C or 46°F). In order to achieve this, Freedom Hill needs to raise $5000 by the time winter is approaching (by May 2013), so that they can have the stables up in time to make their beloved horses as comfortable as possible.
Even if we do not reach our fundraising goal, whatever funds we do raise will still go either towards building the stables, or towards the following areas of need:
- Replenishing the constantly diminishing supply of food (hay, meal, chaff), milk (for the calves) and water
- Ongoing veterinary bills
- Fulfilling our wishlist
- Taking care of the farmland where the animals live
- Buying a tractor
- Building toilets for volunteers
- Support picnics where both kids and adults can come to learn about what we do and give cuddles to the animals
By contributing to this campaign, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping abused and neglected animals stay warm this upcoming winter! If you help us raise more than $5000, you can be sure that you will be helping to fulfil the above needs for the farm and its lovable inhabitants.
You can also order Perks when you donate over a certain amount - these include a Thank You Email and T-shirts currently! - please see the Perks section for more information.
**Update on April 27, 2013 - we have sold out of Men's T-shirt #2 in Large, Round-neck, other sizes and neck styles still available. Also we have only one Men's T-shirt #1 in Small size left, and we might have run out on Ladies T-shirt #1 in Medium V-neck, with other sizes still available along with all sizes in Round-neck! Will update when a couple of the donors get back to me with their preferences!
Freedom Hill has been operating for a little over a year now, and it provides love, shelter, and a permanent home to helpless animals, that would otherwise be exposed to tremendous pain, suffering, and ultimately, an agonising death. By contributing to this campaign, you can ensure that the Sanctuary can continue its amazing work of looking after these animals, as well as educating the public on their plight in the factory farming industry. This incredibly important work has saved lives and touched countless hearts, both of the people who have visited the farm and of the animals that live there!
