SPROUT PRODUCTS IS NOW LIVE AT: www.sproutproducts.com
Less than ten days left! We're only $1500 from making Sprout a reality, and we would hate to see all our effort go to waste. We just got back from talking with our suppliers and the final optimal sizing options allowed us to provide the (slightly) larger sized bin to all our early adopters. Thanks again for all your support, and we would truly appreciate it if you shared our campaign!
Sprout is a modern compost bin, made for and by the eco-conscious. It's small enough to blend into any room, and large enough to efficiently produce fertilizer. It's strong enough to be left outside to the elements, yet can be seamlessly placed into any kitchen. It looks good. It works even better. We need your help to make it available for everyone; if we don’t get to $7500, it can't happen.
Sprout comes in only two parts: a lid and a bottom. The 8”x8”x3” cover contains a replaceable carbon filter to block out any possible scent and vents to allow air intake and seals tightly with the bottom. The 8”x8”x8” bottom is the cubic chamber of the compost bin, where the action takes place. Only Sprout is designed in a way so that you are able to flip the cover to fill an indent in the bottom to become a flowerpot.
With only two components, Sprout is compact, sleek, and very durable—it can be easily used inside or outside. That’s a good composter: simple, efficient, durable.
Before, if anybody in the city or without much space wanted to compost, he would either be out of luck or sacrifice precious room for an ugly bin. There simply wasn't enough space to "go green" with a compost bin. Don’t believe us? Search for “compost bin” and tell us what you think. What’s the point of composting if you can’t fit one in your home, let alone use the fertilizer? Sprout solves this problem, by being both a pot to hold the rich fertilizer in, as well as being reusable for multiple rounds.
Sprout, unlike other compost bins, wasn’t designed with large-scale composting in mind. Rather, we envision it being used to collect scraps in the kitchen, the living room as a pot, and harvest the potential trash output that comes out of a modern lifestyle. We see it being used in an apartment, a house, a dorm. Not a farm.
The reason only Sprout can make composting possible in such a small form factor is due to the usage of a unique process called “bokashi” composting, where waste is composted not by rotting, but by fermenting. This method offers several substantial benefits:
- Cuts down the greenhouse gas production substantially
- Allows you to compost anything (yes, even meat!)
- Cheaper and much more cost-efficient
- Most importantly, it’s (a lot) quicker!
The way Sprout uses “bokashi” composting is through small granules of microbe-infused bran. This dry bran mix is entirely non-hazardous to animals and humans; all you have to do is sprinkle a little bit in every time you add a new layer of food scraps.
We will ship the Sprout with 6 packets of a dry bokashi bran mix which will last for a year. After that, you can either purchase or make your own bokashi mix (which we will detail in the included tutorial).
NO SMELL, LITTLE WORK
No smell. That’s right. If you compost correctly (it’s easy!), there should be little to no scent produced from the composting process. Any remaining smell will be caught in the carbon filter before escaping outside.
We’ve also been working on a simple, easy-to-follow tutorial to ship with Sprout. We understand that the average consumer has minimal understanding of composting and—trust us—that’s fine. It’s not a complicated process, and we’re here to make it easier. You won’t make a mess or smell anything weird with Sprout.
Sprout is much smaller than the average compost bin, but large enough to efficiently turn food scraps into fertilizer. It can hold 2.77 US gallons of scraps, more than enough to turn fruit peels into soil.
While other compost bins are made purely for the purpose of creating fertilizer, we kept in mind the end-user when we designed Sprout—it’s nice to have fertilizer, but where can you use it if you don’t have a yard? Sprout is the only compost bin created with the aesthetic and functionality as a flower or plant pot. Grow whatever you like in the rich soil you’ll have.
What we’re looking for are partners who share our ideas, our views, and our goals. Sprout is our dream, a product that dispels the dirtiness, work, and tedious ideas surrounding composting and brings bokashi into the modern world.
We want to see everyone take advantage of composting. Unfortunately, we can’t do it with our capital alone. As of now, Sprout is a series of functional prototypes created with 3D-printing techniques and manual finishing, which is prohibitively costly and timely.
As of now, we already have several manufacturing partners ready to create the final mould for Sprout. However, if we can’t reach $7500, we won’t be able to fund the costs of the mould. We have the 3D renders, the files, everything. All we need is the capital to pay for the first mould. We can do it. We can realize our dream.
We’ve designed Sprout as a hassle-free and easy-to-use product, so naturally we’ve devised an easy way to determine shipping as well. In fact, we're subsidizing the shipping (for now) because we're so excited to put Sprout in your hands. Take a look at the following diagram:
Just check what region you live in and factor the number of Sprouts you want—that’s your shipping cost. All you have to do now is add on the cost of the shipping to your perk! If you have questions or concerns about shipping, feel free to contact us.

It’s easy to help! In fact, we’d really appreciate if you can in any way at all, be it through referrals or word-of-mouth. We’re counting on you to make it happen.
As a token of our appreciation, we will send you a free Sprout if you are able to contribute $200 (8 units) through friends, family, colleagues, anyone. Here’s how:
1) Log into IndieGoGo through your Facebook or IGG account.
2) Click on our IndieGoGo campaign link and scroll to the “Share This Campaign” section. This is your unique link through which you can refer anyone. We will be able to track any purchase your referrals made through this.
3) Use the share buttons (Like, Tweet, +1) to share our campaign to your friends! This will post your personal link on your social networks so that anyone can click and make a purchase. We will still track their purchases and credit them to you.
Feel free to comment or provide any feedback as to how we’re doing; we appreciate your help.
We can’t thank you enough for your help,
