SOULNIC 2013 - June 29, 2013

SOULNIC is an annual FREE, family and community oriented, outdoor music festival and picnic featuring DJs playing soulful dance music.  SOULNIC not only provides families with an alternative and fun way to spend time together outdoors, but it's also a platform to inspire the spirit of charitable giving in a way that benefits creativity in our youth.

Extra Mild Sauce is an organization of visionaries who create quality music events nationwide.  Their collective professional experience spans over 15 years in music, film and event planning.  Since 2009, they have been committed to bringing community and families together through their free event SOULNIC. This year the producers are celebrating their 4th Annual SOULNIC on Saturday, June 29, from 9am to 10pm in Griffith Park at the Crystal Springs picnic area.   Events have been established in cities like Chicago (Chosen Few), New York (Soul Summit) and Atlanta (House in the Park). This year SOULNIC returns to Los Angeles on Saturday, June 29th, in the Crystal Springs area of the park.

Community participation in Los Angeles has grown from its first event in 2010 with over 300 friends and family to over 2,000 people in 2012.  SOULNIC is a free, fun filled day at the park, for families, in an environment that promotes love, peace, unity and community.  “I love being able to bring my mom, my aunties, kids to an event for us to be together for an entire day,” said one of the many families that attended the day’s festivities.

Proceeds from this year’s event from sponsorships and donations will benefit two non-profit organizations: On a Mission, a non-profit helping youth become responsible and productive citizens while acquiring important life skills needed to become successful adults. Their programs are designed to encourage kids to become active members in their communities for positive results.

The second group is called A Place Called Home, a non-profit youth center in South Central Los Angeles founded in 1993 providing educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance, art classes, and fitness opportunities that encourage and empower youth to take ownership of the quality and direction of their lives.

"From day one, SOULNIC has been about love, family, unity and community. My team and I have focused on providing an event that is free, family and community oriented and open to the general public. We also wanted to partner with children's charities, as our beneficiaries, in an effort to assist them with raising awareness and funds.

In the past, my team and I have covered all of the costs associated with the production of SOULNIC (permit, stage, sound and etc) and this number has increased each year. Last year's explosion in attendance (500-600 attendees in 2011 to well over 2000 in 2012) led Griffith Park to require we provide additional services in order for there to be a SOULNIC 2013. Within the last month, we were able to secure their most important request of offsite parking. We received the green light and SOULNIC 2013 was approved.

While the event has been approved and is a 'go', the additional services (offsite parking, shuttles, security, porta potties and etc) have raised the production budget exponentially (from just under $10K in the past to $47K) and my team and I cannot cover it ourselves. What started as a simple party in the park, that we didn't mind funding, has turned into a huge event that we cannot fund alone. We've laid the groundwork for the last 3 years and have taken SOULNIC as far as we can, by ourselves, in year number 4.

If the 4th Annual SOULNIC Music Festival is going to happen, it will only happen if the people mobilize behind it and make it happen. Your support is greatly needed and is a must. We've partnered with On A Mission, a children's charity and 501(c)(3), who has volunteered to be our Fiscal Sponsor. Meaning, ALL donations are accepted and managed by On A Mission and are TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

I'm asking if you will help us make SOULNIC 2013 happen by making a tax deductible donation, of at least $10, along with spreading the word to your network of family, friends and colleagues and asking them to make a small donation as well.

Moving forward, we will be working our hardest to procure corporate sponsorship so SOULNIC 2014 can go back to being what SOULNIC was set out to be from the beginning, a fun day in the sun for families that's free and open to all.
