Our Story

My Name is Ian Lawson and I am a senior mechanical engineer at Oregon State University. For my last year I have decided to live out of my van to save on money. So far it has been a ton of fun and but there is one thing missing. I can't charge my phone at night or plug in any appliances.

I have always been a supporter of green energy and helping the environment in any way I can. Putting a solar kit on the van seemed like a great solution to my power problem and a great way to actualize my passions about green energy. The van would need a panel, battery, inverter, and regulator in order to run independent from the cars components. Rose City Solar, a small company trying to get its start, will be designing and implementing the installation plan.

The Impact

The sun is an infinite source of energy and seems as of yet to be fully realized. Other countries such as china have started putting solar panels on every surface possible. It’s time for Oregon, known for its environmentalists, to go solar. Putting a solar panel on my van will grab people’s attention. If you can put a solar panel on a van you can put a solar panel almost anywhere. As a mechanical engineer and Rose City Solar’s lead installer I will be able to explain the workings of the solar kit to anyone who is interested. Let’s spread the word about solar energy! I can't wait to be living proof of its success.
