Note I: Unfortunately, if we do not meet our goal, we will be unable to contribute the 10% and film the trailer. Any size contribution will help.
Note II: All credits will be given on-screen and submitted for IMDb.
This campaign is for an extended-length promotional trailer shooting as soon as this campaign wraps in August. The trailer focuses only on one small segment of the feature script. The feature goes much further into the story this promotional version will only touch on. In order to bring out the potential in this project, we need to work with professionals whom are experts in their relative fields. Some of the artists are featured in the campaign video, others are not.
Why shoot a trailer and not jump straight into the feature-length?
Pitching a screenplay as a writer at pitchfests to Hollywood Producers who don't even know your name - is one thing. However, pitching a screenplay as a filmmaker is different: the trailer does most of the talking, and you won't have to pay money to get in the door. All you need to do is get it out there - YouTube, Vine, Vimeo, FaceBook, etc.
The people involved with this project are not movie stars. We cannot fund a feature-length movie on Indiegogo based on our names alone as some have done on this site. Also, a script being pitched may never even be read. Pitching a screenplay is just that: pitching a screenplay - talking. Pitching a promotional trailer for the script, shows you know how to make a movie and - walk the walk.
Another important part of this campaign, and future ones launched by Hugh or his 10GS company, is that he will make it a lifelong goal to donate a portion of earnings made by 10GS projects to go to a cause deemed fit for the story. Us filmmakers cannot make films if we do not have an audience to see them; but, we also have a duty to help others. It may make it more difficult to interweave a charitable cause, but it is important. Art is meant to be shared, influential, moving. With this said:
10% of the total contributions made towards slauGhterbox will be donated to help Missing & Exploited Children, specifically The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children founded by John Walsh of America’s Most Wanted.
It only takes one click on the FBI Missing Person database to be fully aware there are too many missing children and adults alike. Some are famous such as: Adam Walsh, Amanda Berry, and Jaycee Lee Dugard. Others are not so famous - but equally missed. They need our help and support, no matter how "small".
It is expensive to make a movie, even a short one, especially one that involves a demon, visual effects, and stunts. In order to best execute this project, and therefore have the best chance at financing the feature-length version, we need the help of talented people whom have children, rent, pet rent, and get hungry. We are pulling as many reputable favors as possible to keep the budget low; however, some of the costs, listed alphabetically, are:
- Actors' Fees;
- Camera Assistant;
- Concept/Storyboard Art;
- Craft Service (very basic stuff - we're talking "Lunchables");
- Director of Photography;
- Gaffer (to light the set as camera-ready);
- Grip/Set Equipment;
- Make-Up (SFX/other);
- Red Epic or equivalent camera rental;
- Sound technician;
- Stunt rigger;
- Transportation Costs (fuel);
- Visual Effects; and,
- Woodworker to build the SlaughterBox device.
There are a number of tangible perks, but they vary depending on which side you choose: Adam or Lilith. Creator or Destroyer. Angel or Demon.
The rankings below for each path are listed from lowest to highest.
Writer/director/everything else of SlaughterBox and playing Adam/Creator in the trailer. He has written five feature-length screenplays. Each features angels, demons, or other creatures; but, when he writes, regardless of genre, it is always based in truth. If he writes about a hellgate, it is a tangible gate that can be touched - if you can get there. If he writes about a demon, it is a real entity - if you dare to meet it.
Further, Hugh recently formed a production company, 10 Gauge Shakespeare (a.k.a. 10GS), whose name represents the rustic outlaw quality and strong Shakespearian influence on his writing style, producing interests, and photographic swagger. He also formed 10GS to help facilitate his own projects and perhaps begin producing the work of other writers.
Jacqueline Quintanar: Concept Art/Storyboard Art/Musician | Contact
Jackie's artwork has been a colossal help to Hugh in pre-visualizing the slauGhterbox trailer and its characters. A strong believer in storyboarding, Hugh will tell you he has learned over the years that pre-visualizing a film not only helps visualize, but prevents mistakes during filming by finding in pre-production what will or will not work both technically and cinematically - long before you ever get to the set. Jackie is also a schooled musician and created the thumping music for the campaign video.
Maria Olsen: Actress/Producer/Owner - MOnsterworks66 | IMDb
Maria is a brilliant actress (Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief, Paranormal Activity 3) and writer whom Hugh originally pitched a different screenplay to while circling tables at The Great American Pitchfest 2012 in Burbank, CA - the ticket cost he borrowed from a variety of friends and family. Being able to work with Maria is quite an achievement for any Indie filmmaker. She is absolutely brilliant and one of the hardest working creatives out there, in Indiewood or otherwise.
Daryl Bartley: Visual Effects Artist/Animator/Compositor | IMDb
Daryl has worked in visual effects long before they had schools to teach it. His résumé includes: Avatar, Cowboys & Aliens, Leprechaun, Prometheus, and World War Z - to name only a few. He does everything from design, to animation, to modeling, to previsualization, to everything in between. On SlaughterBox, his work will mostly revolve around the demon Lilith, notably scenes where she is suspended by chains/transformed in hell, and the glimpses of her tattered angelic wings.
Brian Moore: Custom Woodworker | Contact
Brian is a skilled carpenter who was able to take Hugh's original schematic drawing of the SlaughterBox device and translate it into professional language, then, just as importantly, turn the schematic drawing into a workable prop for our project. Brian works out of the Anaheim area here in California, but contact him to ask about any residential or commercial woodwork you may need.
Erik Emanus: Athletic Trainer | Contact
Erik holds a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Exercise & Sports Science from The University of Memphis. A highly knowledgeable fitness trainer with an emphasis on athletic training. He was able to create a workout plan catered for Hugh's role as Adam/Creator in which the actor lost 7% body fat and gained 20lbs of muscular weight for the role.
Just one last note from the writer.
Dear Potential Contributor:
Thank you for reading this far. I hope you have a peaked interest in this story of mine from the glimpses of what you have seen in the pitch video, as well as what you have read here. I cannot tell you or anyone else what the future holds, but I hope that I continue to have the perseverance to establish myself in Hollywood.
It is a rough road for Indie filmmakers, but it is a possible one to navigate. I can't say this project will turn into a blockbuster endeavor or launch anyone's careers. I can tell you that it will be a good project to be a part of. Myself, and everyone who is working on it, are hardworking and passionate people. We love every second of it.
I want any project I work on to help others in some way - big or small. As previously stated, I feel it is very important to donate to a charity, especially since this project is partially funded by you - the audience. We are a part of this together. Any contribution made to my project will be highly - HIGHLY - appreciated.
Other Ways You Can Help.
Even if you cannot contribute monetarily to the SlaughterBox project, please help in spreading the word via your own social media, word of mouth, or any other such medium. This is a competitive line of work, and we will gladly accept any help we can get. Contact me via email, FaceBook, or telepathy at anytime.
Thanks so much, truly.
