* We are accepting contributions external to indiegogo as well; these numbers are reflected in the chart.
Why the Hymn Project?
We hope to change your life by bringing you a moment of peace through these hymn recordings. We also hope that you will contribute and help us share this music with everyone.
Hymns are simple expressions of faith and hope, bringing comfort and peace. This is our reply to turmoil and disasters -- both personal and global.
Who are the Singers Alumni?
We are all alumni of one of the top collegiate choirs in the U.S., the BYU Singers. So far we have had well over 100 Singers Alumni contribute their time and talents toward this project by recording with us.
When are you recording?
We've already started! We first met on May 1st, and have been recording two hymns each week. Here are some rough cuts from a recording session.
Each recording session is a spiritual experience as we seek to feel and express the spirit of the hymns. The "Led by Faith Background" track (2/4) illustrates this. Though it isn't slated for release, we hope it helps you feel the spirit that we have felt as we record.
For now, we have arranged to record hymns through August (two a night, every Wednesday), but we are willing to record more if there is demand.
What does my contribution do?Not only will you receive your selected rewards for contributing, you will have a voice in this project by requesting your favorite hymns.
What is "personal impact"?
Not only are your direct donations important, your sharing this project is extremely important!
Indiegogo tracks your personal impact on a project, letting you see how many people you have brought to the project, and how much you and they have collectively donated.
To track your personal impact, sign in to indiegogo and come to this project page. The address bar will have a special link (ending in /x/NUMBER) for you to share. To view your impact, go to your profile and click on "My Impact".
Your personal impact is only visible to you and to us. If you request a hymn (see below), we'll take your impact into consideration.
I love ________ hymn. Will you record it?
We would love to record a specific hymn for you! There are 2 options available:
- Choose "Select and Dedicate a Hymn" as your reward.
- Or choose "Request a Hymn" and send us a message through indiegogo with your request.
For this second option, we will keep track of which hymns are most requested, as well as the personal impact (see above) of those contributors. We cannot guarantee that all these hymns will be recorded, but we will seriously consider every request. Your voice will be heard.
Are all hymns from the LDS hymnal?
Most of us are LDS and we will be recording some hymns written specifically for the LDS faith, but many hymns are inter-denominational.
If you want a recording of any hymn, contact us!
Will you record a hymn I've written?
We would love to see your piece! Contact us through our submit a hymn page.
Will CDs and sheet music be available?
Yes! We fully intend to make the music available in physical form once the project has finished.
What will the T-shirt look like?
Something like this!
What is the "Eric Whitacre Collection"?
It's a 2-CD remastered release of one of the most celebrated contemporary choral composers, as performed by the BYU Singers. Eric was involved with the production of both volumes.
Here's a sample track.
I want ________ reward!
Get in touch! We're open to suggestions for incentives other than those already listed!
Who is behind this project?
David and Jonnie started this whole thing while talking after a Singers rehearsal in mid-April. We presented an idea to Dr. Staheli and Sandefur, who immediately got on board and who have helped refine the project.
It's been an incredible 6 weeks from conception to launch. DJB has done wonderful work as seen in our video, and Jacob Meldrum has handled our graphic design. We have also had great support and contributions from the Singers Alumni as a whole.
How will the funds be used?
Most of our resources are already being donated so we have very minimal project expenses. Funds will be used for reward fulfillment (including printing CDs and sheet music), with surplus going to the BYU Singers Endowment, an annuity used to help fund touring and other costs incurred by the Singers not covered by BYU.
Is my donation tax deductible?
We are in the middle of forming our 501(c)(3) and we are able to accept tax-deductible donations. However, indiegogo requires that the paperwork be completed to run a fundraiser as a non-profit, so donations given through indiegogo will not be tax deductible.
If you have a large donation, need your contribution to be tax deductible, or your employer matches your charitable donations, contact us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
