Cinema For Causes - Short Summary

"All the suffering in the world comes from seeking happiness for oneself.

All the happiness in the world comes from seeking happiness for others." ~ Shantideva.

The main goal of a life on earth is to find happiness. But the endless quest for happiness has lead us to many sufferings instead. These sufferings can be identified at both personal and impersonal levels. Depression, disease, poverty, social injustice, discrimination, human rights issues, animal cruelty, wars, genocides, natural disasters and many man-made disasters to name a few, are mostly caused by our ignorance and inability to do something about it.

Cinema in recent years has become much more than just a source of entertainment. Knowing how powerful this medium has become in sending out messages (good and bad both) into our world, we at the Silent River Film Festival have decided to use it as a vehicle to bring positive changes in our society. Through the medium of cinema, we are committed to bring awareness about the issues that need our attention and to find creative solutions for them.

In 2013 Silent River Film Festival showcases 82 films from 17 coiuntries. "Cinema For Causes" showcase alone shows 13 documentaries and films this year to bring awareness about important issues and provide them active support.

         HOW I BECAME AN ELEPHANT

In 2012,  "Cinema For Causes" at the Silent River Film Festival was able to raise a substantial amount in donations for the humane treatment of animals by showing"How I Became An Elephant" produced by CSI Star Jorja Fox. The amount was donated to the "Elephant Nature Park"  in Chiang Mai province in Northern Thailand.

Established in the 1990's this park provides a sanctuary and rescue center for elephants. Parks is also involved in rain forest restoration and cultural preservation.

How I Became and Elephant' is delighted and flattered to be a part of the 'Silent River Film Festival". Bringing people together is one of the main reasons many of us get involved in this wonderful industry. Coming together in the spirit of the 'Cinema For Causes' program is an added honor and a big thrill for all of us.'

~ CSI Star Jorja Fox.
