Cinema For Causes - Short Summary

main goal of a life on earth is to find happiness. But the endless
quest for happiness has lead us to many sufferings instead. These
sufferings can be identified at both personal and impersonal
levels. Depression, disease, poverty, social injustice,
discrimination, human rights issues, animal cruelty, wars,
genocides, natural disasters and many man-made disasters to name a
mostly caused by our ignorance and inability to do something about
Cinema in recent years has become much more than just a source of entertainment. Knowing how powerful this medium has become in sending out messages (good and bad both) into our world, we at the Silent River Film Festival have decided to use it as a vehicle to bring positive changes in our society. Through the medium of cinema, we are committed to bring awareness about the issues that need our attention and to find creative solutions for them.
In 2013 Silent River Film Festival showcases 82 films from 17 coiuntries. "Cinema For Causes" showcase alone shows 13 documentaries and films this year to bring awareness about important issues and provide them active support.

Pad Yatra: a Green
and its environmental
cause, under its Cinema For Causes Program in
100% NET PROCEEDS COMING FROM THE SCREENING OF PAD YATRA: A GREEN ODYSSEY WILL BE DONATED TO "LIVE TO LOVE" FOUNDATION, FOUNDED BY HIS HOLINESS GYALWANG DRUKPA TO SUPPORT HIS NEXT PAD YATRA MISSION TO BRING AWARENESS ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL CAUSE.
In 2010, the Gyalwang Drukpa was awarded the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Honor, followed by the Green Hero Award presented by the former president of India, Pratibha Patil. The Gyalwang Drukpa sits on the Earth Awards Selection Committee with Jane Goodall and Richard Branson.

25% NET PROCEEDS COMING FROM THE SCREENING OF DUSTY'S TRAIL: SUMMIT OF BORNEO WILL BE DONATED TO COALITION DUCHENNE TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY, TO FUND RESEARCH AND TO FIND A CURE FOR DUCHENNE. .
HOW I BECAME AN ELEPHANT
In 2012, "Cinema For
Causes" at the Silent River Film Festival was able to raise a
substantial amount in donations for the humane treatment of
animals by showing"How I Became An Elephant" produced by CSI Star Jorja Fox. The amount was donated to the "Elephant Nature Park"
in Chiang Mai province in Northern Thailand.
Established in the 1990's this park provides a sanctuary and rescue center for elephants. Parks is also involved in rain forest restoration and cultural preservation.
How I Became and
Elephant' is delighted and flattered to be a part of the 'Silent
River Film Festival". Bringing people together is one of the main
reasons many of us get involved in this wonderful industry. Coming
together in the spirit of the 'Cinema For Causes' program is an
added honor and a big thrill for all of us.'
