HELP TAKE SHRED BETTIES TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Shred Betties Magazine was started in 2005 by a small group of female snowboarders who were dissatisfied with the current news media portrayal of snowboarding. Since then we've become the go-to news source in women's snowboarding. Now we want take the magazine to the next level. Our goals are to empower women through participation in action sports, to encourage more women to participate, and to provide a platform for success and equal pay.
With this campaign, we begin the process of transforming Shred Betties from a small organization run purely by volunteer efforts into a 501(c)3 non-profit advocacy organization. This will enable us to seek out the funding that we need to make a bigger impact in women's snowboarding. We have big plans, from Shred betties sponsored competitions to a scholarship fund for female athletes to community outreach programs designed to empower women and give girls positive self-esteem. We need your help to get started!
What We Need & What You Get
Unfortunately, there are many expenses involved in achieving 501(c)3 status and we can't achieve that or any of our goals on volunteer work alone. So we're looking to cover legal fees, business registration fees, website registration & maintenance costs, and the cost of hiring an accountant. We'd also like to raise money to get started with several projects, including a grant fund for female snowboarders, an all-girl snowboard event, and our community outreach programs.
If we don't reach our full goal, we still intend to register as a non-profit, so any funds donated will go towards that registration process. And the rest will come from our credit cards or something. Maybe someone will sell a kidney? :)
We've got some fun perks for donors, including Shred Betties swag, mention on our website, and ad space for business donors.
Below are our goals for the next five years once Shred Betties is registered as a non-profit.
Maintain and expand shredbetties.com with the goals of providing opportunities for female snowboarders, encouraging female involvement in the sport, advocating for equality for women, and educating the public about women's snowboarding.
Create three grant funds with the goals of assisting individual female snowboarders in furthering their careers:
1. Team Rider Scholarship Fund: Each summer, we select a team of promising up-and-coming snowboarders and provide them with career assistance with marketing, exposure, and media coverage. We will create this grant fund to provide them with financial assistance for contest fees, medical expenses, and travel.
2. Scholarship Fund for Female Snowboarders: Open to all female snowboarders, this scholarship will provide financial assistance for expenses related to a career in snowboarding. Scholarships will be given based on need and merit.
3. Fair Contest Prizes Fund: This fund will be used to sponsor women's divisions in snowboard competition with the goal of creating a more equal prize distribution in competitions that have both male and female competitors.
COMPETITIONS & EVENTS
Create a series of competitions and events with the goals of generating publicity for women's snowboarding, providing opportunities for female snowboarders, and encouraging more women to participate in snowboarding.
Create programs and events that encourage women and girls across all demographics to participate in snowboarding. These programs will use snowboarding as a vehicle to teach girls and at-risk women about positive self image and to improve their self-esteem and build confidence.
