Some Lessons Come With Fangs
Flying Anvil Theatre has been invited to present Staci Swedeen's one-woman show Pardon Me For Living: A Biting Comedy as part of the 2013 Piccolo Spoleto Theatre Festival!
About the show:
Staci Swedeen’s one-woman show, “Pardon Me for Living,” is a high-wire act perfectly balancing raucous comedy and heart-wrenching reality. After a harrowing attack by a rabid raccoon, Swedeen (and her many characters) explore fate, random catastrophes, and the human condition. You must see this compelling, hilarious, deeply moving performance. And fasten your seat belts.
This play is for anyone who has wondered how to cope when finding themselves (or someone they love) in a difficult and unexpected situation.
Flying Anvil Theatre, co-founded by Jayne Morgan and Staci Swedeen, is Knoxville's newest professional theatre. Acceptance into Piccolo Spoleto is a huge honor. Now all we need is the money to get there!
Help Get Us - (and The Raccoon) - to Spoleto
Any amount you can contribute will help fund the following:
- Transportation from Knoxville, TN to Charleston, SC and back.
- Theatre rental for three performances
- Lodging and food for four days and three nights during the Spoleto Festivals ($$$$)
- Printing costs for posters, postcards and playbills
- Any money raised over our costs (we should BE so lucky!) will go towards the fall production of Flying Anvil Theatre.
Flying Anvil Theatre was formed to present provocative, moving, hysterically funny, unexpected and shockingly good theatre. Spoleto is a milestone as we continue to build our reputation and become the most dynamic and adventurous new theatres in Knoxville.

The Journey of Pardon Me
Or How I Came To Be Here: After the attack by the rabid raccoon attack friends kept saying, "I can't wait to see what you write about this!" For a long time I wasn't sure I could to write anything about this event. It was too vivid, too shocking, too funny, and all too real. But with encouragement I began gathering the notes I'd jotted down in my morphine haze in the hospital. Playwright Kathleen Warnock scheduled me for an early reading at Drunken! Careening! Writers! in the East Village. I did the original 20 minutes as part of Emerging Artist Theatre's "One Woman Standing" Festival. A workshop at the Lark Theatre in NYC allowed me to complete the entire script. Hudson Stage Company then asked me to perform the premiere of the entire piece at their stage in Westchester, NY, followed by a performance at Penguin Rep Theatre. I went on to do a few more shows in the New York area before moving to Knoxville in 2012, where my colleague Jayne Morgan and I kicked off Flying Anvil Theatre with this show. Acceptance into Piccolo Spoleto 2013 is another fabulous step on the journey of this play - and we would be so grateful for any support you can offer us.
