In the midst of the “South Bend Renaissance”, the idea of not just wishing, but actually making something happen was the inspiration behind Seitz and Sounds Open Stage. The idea took hold one night in a causal conversation in the Dietz kitchen. Don, Cathy, and Kelly Dietz agreed to take steps toward creating a weekly event designed to provide opportunities for an array of acts, everything from first time performers to experienced artists. It was also important that the event be free to the public so the whole community could enjoy the experience.
The venue chosen was Seitz Park, along the beautiful East Race Waterway in Downtown South Bend. It's location has a beautiful stage, seating and is a short walk or bike ride from many neighborhoods and downtown businesses.Seitz Park, South Bend, Indiana
The concept for Seitz & Sounds Open Stage is simple. Each night has five 20 minute sets, followed by an hour long performance from a featured artist. Artists interested in performing are pre-screened by registering online. To expose the community to many different types of music and performance art, each night's list of performers includes as many different genres as possible.

In just under a month, with the help of friends and neighbors, we were up and running. Before long, attendees started showing up every Thursday night. After thirteen straight weeks, and 78 performances, we were continually amazed by the community’s response and enthusiasm in support of our little idea.
Seitz & Sounds is free, fun, and family- friendly!
During the 2013 season, we were challenged weekly to put together a sound system for the event. Through the generosity of friends and local businesses, we were able to piece together what we needed for those thirteen weeks. Although we were grateful for everyone's help, operating this way each week was very challenging. Many things can go wrong…. and sometimes did.

What would really help us this year is for Seitz & Sounds to have it's very own sound system. We are looking to raise $8000 for a sound system that can handle one performer or a group with multiple instruments. With the addition of a new sound system, we will be able to improve:
Playing time for artists
Consistency in sound
Guaranteed professional sound for artists
Ensuring a secure environment
Opportunity to expand event experience
Not only does your support open up the potential for this event to encompass more talent, but the ultimate benefit is creating a richer experience for the audience.

We are asking for you to please consider contributing to our campaign. Every bit helps! It makes us so happy to be able to bring the community together each week for this beautiful event. Help us make it event even better!
Plan to attend weekly in the months of June, July and August, every Thursday night from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
