*****In under TWO days, we have already surpassed our initial goal of $3500! Thanks so much to everyone who has donated so far. Your generosity will help Oceanside schools and students recover in no time. We are not stopping the campaign here; we are still collecting for a few more weeks. Please spread the word and thank you SO MUCH again for making this campaign a success!*****
Oceanside, Long Island was ravaged by Superstorm Hurricane Sandy in late October 2012. Everything from homes to businesses to cars to schools were flooded, damaged and destroyed. Rebuilding and replacing things lost in the storm will cost the town and its people millions upon millions of dollars. To add insult to injury, the town was hit by a nor'easter just a week after Sandy. Much of the town is still without power, heat, hot water or garbage pickup. Folks are sad, frustrated and hoping for a quick return to the lives they once knew.
As a result of the storm, Oceanside students have been displaced from their classrooms as schools need to repair flood damage, electrical damage and heating systems. They've also lost most, if not all, of their supplies. These are huge disruptions to students who have become innocent victims of this natural disaster. Students will resume class on November 13th for the first time since October 26th, only many will be bused to new locations, and need to make do with whatever limited supplies are made available to them. Please view the devastation seen in our town over the past two weeks in the video made by Oceanside Schools above.
Who We Are
We are Oceanside School District alumni (Kate Barker, Beth Berger, Alex Gelman, Paul Karp, Jacquie Katz, John Krizel, Scott Scheinson, Allyson Schmutter, Jamie Schmutter and Jason Schoenfeld) who reaped the benefits of a fabulous education system. We all live away from our hometown now and we're looking to help our friends, families, teachers, loved ones and the Oceanside community we fondly remember to restore things that were lost in the storm and make sure they know we have not forgotten them. We will be raising money to go directly back into the Oceanside School District to help get the affected schools in working order as quickly as possible. It is every child's right to learn, grow and thrive in a school setting.
What We Need
Our goal is to raise $3,500 dollars for the Oceanside School District and Oceanside Community Service, Inc. The district will use the money to rebuild schools damaged by flooding, replace oil burners and hot water heaters, buy students supplies, computers, and technology. The district will help provide clothing, food, and shelter to those students whose homes have been destroyed and damaged beyond repair.
Your $7 donation will provide a 120 pack of Crayola crayons (with a surprise inside!) to a student who loves to express him or herself through art

All of us are who we are today because of the community that raised us.
