Save Our Jazz

Save Our Jazz is a student music concert to benefit, support and extend music programs in and outside the classroom.

KJazz 88.1 FM needs your help to Save Our Jazz in our local schools near the Long Beach, CA area.  KJazz is kicking off the program with two student music concerts to benefit, support and extend music programs in and outside the classroom. Student groups from Oak Middle School, Woodrow Wilson Classical High School, JazzAngels, and the Jazz Studies Program at Cal State Long Beach will be performing at this 2-part concert series.

KJazz would like to invite local schools and student jazz groups to showcase their musical talents at the first annual KJazz Save Our Jazz Festival.

  • This 2-part special concert series will take place at KDB in Long Beach on February 17th and 24th, 2013 and offer opportunities for students and families to play, learn, share and inspire.
  • Every $ we raise after we reach $2,500 will be donated to the school programs and proceeds from all tickets sold by the schools will go directly to their music programs!

We are using Indigogo to get the word out to help fund this amazing student concert series and to help cover venue rental, staffing, production costs, and local marketing.

Our objective for Save Our Jazz is to educate, inspire and develop new musicians, by giving them a place to showcase their talents.  As music programs are dwindling in schools, it is crucial that we find ways to develop the talent of young jazz musicians. With the help of individuals, foundations, and corporations, we hope to provide an opportunity for our youth to express their talents and encourage artistic growth both as an individual and as a group.  These student concerts will not only offer young musicians the encouragement they need, but also the financial resources necessary for their programs to continue.

Education programs are facing budget cutbacks across the country, raising concerns about support for school music programs. Thank you for your help with this special project and we hope to create a summer series to support more schools in our area (with your help)!
