My name is Ryan, and I would like to share with you a short comic book project I've been working on over the last year. It's based on the Inuit legend Sedna, or alternatively named Sanna: Goddess of the Sea. The story is a coming-of-age tale about a young Inuit woman who refuses to marry a mysterious suitor and her journey of personal and physical transformation.
This project is important to me because it is my first serious attempt at crafting a story through the medium of comics. I think it is especially important to Canada and the world that this aboriginal story be shared. My art directors have helped me through the hardest part of the process; visual development, layout, pacing, and penciling. Now I hope that you will back me for adding the inks, colors, and text. If you can help meet our financial goal you will help in bringing this project full-circle. Please check out the comic in the gallery.
What We Need & The Impact
The money raised will allow me to focus on the project full-time. I feel a project like this deserves a focused momentum that will allow for my attention to detail. Every backer who contributes $5 and above will recieve a PDF digital copy of the 6 page full-color comic. Plus, for those that dig a bit deeper there is another side project that will add to the campaign to showcase the characters outside of their panels; a digital painting of each of the main characters as wallpapers, greeting cards, and prints would really illustrate how mythic they are! These 6 double-page spreads will also be featured in the comic. Overall I think the impact of the project will be positive and will encourage learning about the Inuit culture, reading, drawing, and making comics.
I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but I have to be open to the possibility of raising more than I am asking for. A couple of ideas floating around my head are enhancing the printed goods with holographic foil stamping to highlight the supernatural aspects of these characters. I am also interested in animating this comic book so that the panels move and provide an interactive experience.
