What's it about?
It's about high school, misfits, sex, OCD, cowlicks, thongs, cigarettes, tupac, and lip liner. It's about a nerd and a chola, a girl with a nack for sharpening pencils, and a rose. It's about Prom and romance and suspenders and converse shoes. It's about how fickle love is, how we often want what we can't have. It's about growing up.
Romeo + Rosaline is a story about nerd and general outcast Romeo, who falls in love with a girl completely out of his league. In order to woo her and convince her to go Prom with him, Romeo teams up with partially unwilling Melanie, a fellow member of his after-school group therapy session for kids who struggle making friends. Staying true to Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, Romeo is constantly falling in and out of love, with a fickle heart too big for his barely post-pubescent chest. After falling head over heels for Rosaline and spending the entirety of his efforts wooing her, Romeo happens to see the new girl: mousy, nerdy Juliet.
Who are we?
Director: Hi! I'm Jen Hubbard, writer and director. I'm a student at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and this will be my final film here at school. I'm extremely passionate about what I do and always give 100%. I took that off of my resume. I'm currently in my senior year here at NYU, studying film and television production while both working and interning at MTV Networks. I don't sleep often.
Producers: I've got the absolute dream team of producers, Diana Lampiasi and Lauren Levine. They're both in their junior year at NYU and have worked on countless productions. Diana is currently interning at CollegeHumor, and Lauren at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Thanks to their supreme producing skills, I was able to lock down a high school in New Jersey for absolutely no cost, meaning less money that I have to beg from friends/family/and strangers (you)!
Director of Photography: Our DP is Erin Trout, senior at NYU. She's taken more camera classes than I even knew existed at the school, and is basically just all-around amazing. She taught me how to AC when I didn't know which end of the camera was the lens. She knows how to make this film beautiful.
Sound Mixer: Contrary to what may be popular belief, a film is nothing without amazing sound. Thankfully, we've got Hollie Bennett on our side. She's currently concentrating in both production sound and post-production sound design, and has worked on more sets than there are probably weekends in the year. She's also my roommate, which means she has to put up sleeping near me every day. (This is a feat in and of itself.)
Art Director: Our art director, Hannah Kettering, has the lovely task of transforming a modern day high school into a high school circa 1995. Luckily, she's extremely talented and passionate about what she does. Hannah will definitely make sure this film has the right look and feel.
Yes, this is what it looks like--a key crew list of all ladies! Support women in film!
What exactly are you paying for, though?
Though we do get an allotment from NYU, some of the stuff simply isn't covered. This is why we need your help!
If you have a calculator, you might've realized this actually adds up to more than $1500. That's because I worked over the summer! Yay work!
Other ways you can help...
So maybe you're poor and you can't contribute. It's okay, so am I! I'm actually amazed you even read through all this. Thank you so much!
Also, if you wouldn't mind, share the link. It never hurt anybody. :)
