Greetings. We’re Dwayne Funt, Shane Reid and Jay Shore, aka Team Roadie.
Documentary filmmakers Shane and Jay were at the Calgary Stampede in the summer of 2013 doing research on their documentary about rodeo clowns when they had a chance encounter with Dwayne as he was shoveling horse crap in the stables. As soon as they heard his unbelievable life story, they knew that they had to make their next film about him. That film is “Roadie.”
“Roadie” is a short documentary that chronicles Dwayne, Nickelback’s first roadie, who was fired by the band in 1995 after being wrongly accused of electrocuting lead singer Chad Kroeger. Despite this heartbreak, Dwayne never stopped being the band’s biggest fan. Nearly 20 years later, he’s going on an epic quest from Hanna, Alberta to Los Angeles to convince the band to re-hire him.
Besides Dwayne’s depression and lack of I.D., there’s another huge obstacle in his way – Nickelback head roadie Chester Peeps, who has a beef with Dwayne that dates back to their Hanna high school days. Chester’s a force of a nature, the kind of guy who eats beer bottles for breakfast. No, seriously.
WHAT WE NEED & WHAT YOU GET
We’re raising $10,000, which will cover our travel, crew, food, insurance and post production services. We’ll be shooting guerilla style, keeping our costs as low as we can, without sacrificing the high quality production values we’re known for.
There are perks for every donation of $10 or more. Check out the right side of the page to see cool stuff we’re giving away, like: “Funt You” buttons and t-shirts, vintage autographed photos of Dwayne and Chad Kroeger, a personal visit or phone call from Dwayne, a co-producer credit, a chance to be in the film and lots of other fun stuff.
Please donate anything you can and share this page with your friends, family and anyone you’ve ever met that loves (or hates) Nickelback.
Thanks for your support. ROCK ON.
