Rio Grande Community Farm's Fall Festival and Mini Maze

Help Rio Grande Community Farm continue to serve the Albuquerque community!

Save the Farm (from Drought)!

Every fall, thousands of Burqueños (Albuquerqueans, to non-New Mexicans) come to Rio Grande Community Farm's (RGCF) Maize Maze event for a country farm escape in the middle of the city. The event features corn mazes with environmental education themes, pumpkin patches, and seasonal celebrations.

And it's the farm's biggest annual fundraiser. By a long shot.

In this, the state's third consecutive year of drought, RGCF is coming up short on our corn maze. Literally. With minimal precipitation and no irrigation water, even our drought-resistant corn crop is not growing well.

As our way of saying thanks for 17 years of community support, we want to continue our farm's tradition of fall celebration. But this year, we need a little extra help! We've integrated Fall Festival and Mini-Maze tickets into our perks as a way to jump-start this year's fundraising festivities, which are more ambitious than ever! They include:

  • Sustainability Day (with cool interactive games and learning stations)
  • Our First-Ever 5K Fun Run
  • The Grand Finale Pumpkin-Palooza Event and Costume Contest!

What We Need & What You Get

  • Rio Grande Community farm needs to raise $25,000 by October 27, 2013
  • These funds will help to finance the farm's 2014 operational expenses, including farm supplies, materials, and maintenance, personnel and programming costs, insurance, and logistical costs. Funds will also help to mitigate drought-related crop loss and help to purchase emergency water rights when necessary.
  • Should we not reach our funding goal, the farm will gratefully use these contributions for imperative farm operating costs.
  • In exchange for your support, we are offering a host of incentives to donors, from bumper stickers and totes to festival tickets, gift certificates, and even hot air balloon rides!

The Impact

RIo Grande Community farm is a 50-acre, non-profit urban farm located in the North Valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our mission, to serve as a model of environmental stewardship, to grow food for the community using sustainable and organic methods, and to educate the community about agriculture and food issues, is served in the following ways:

  • We grow healthy, organic food for local schools, restaurants, and markets.
  • We offer membership and mentorship in a thriving community garden.
  • We maintain an urban wildlife habitat for migrating fauna.
  • We provide fun and educational farm visits, and specialized workshops for both children and adults.

With your help, the farm will be able to continue to serve the Albuquerque community in 2014 and beyond.
