How Fostering animals can save and change lives

My name is Cynthia Lindsey. My project is to raise awareness of how Fostering animals can make a major change in society and life.

I don’t have much money and I live in a small place. I am still on the road to recovery from a nerve condition that I have had for many years. And in the Last 10 Months (2012/13), I am able to foster and save 22 lives (and counting) that changed other lives.  I am single with limited resources, though with working with Friends for Life Animal Rescue and Adoption organization, I am able to make a difference. My situation is not ideal for many, it has worked for me.

To raise awareness I am working on telling my story about my experience. Not that people make excuses though many come up with reasons why they could not foster or think they can not or waiting for a certain time. I want to supply fostering paks that will help set people up right away with bowls,food,towels,toys,blanket/bed,litter box/pee pads, etc. I  would also love to buy supplies to donate along with money for FFL.If you are not able to foster you can donate or volunteer or just spread the word.

Years ago FFL helped find a foster for my two senior cats when I lived at the YMCA so I could get back on my feet. When and if a time came I would want another animal or be able to help I would. Last Feb.('12) my special companion pasted away, an Orange Tabby named Boo being 16 years old. I knew I could not replace him though I had a hole to refill.  Fostering was the solution. I was going to foster litters of kittens with no mother.

Name of my fostering paks:BOO

B-Be yourself

O-Open your heart

O-Open your home

From the first litter I fostered, I did adopted two wondrful Brown Tabby boys, Jack and Phil. They have helped with cleaning, cuddling with, playing and taking care of all the kittens that stay with me.

The money raised will go to help me organize set up fostering paks, event to highlight fostering and for Friends for Life. It is set up this way so I can reach my goals and help FFL. Friends for Life is a non profit 501(c)3 organization, they operate on donations. I am doing this project myself. My way of giving back to FFL.

Alvin the miracle  (he has now been adopted w/brother)

this is the kind of things FFL does that makes them so special

This visionary non-profit has saved thousands of animals through our innovative adoption, rescue, rehabilitation, pet retention and animal food bank programs. We opened The Don Sanders Adoption Center in the Heights, 107 E. 22nd Street, in June 2012.

Friends for Life is moving Houston forward to a No Kill future though programs that redefine "adoptable." We rescue, medically treat, and place animals into loving homes. 75% of the animals we have already placed would not be saved without our unique programs. Our pet retention programs help to keep animals in homes.
Also advancing our community towards a No Kill future are our humane education programs that teach children that animals are not disposable but are companions who deserve our care and compassion.
