I want to be perfectly transparent. I didn't need that much money. Somehow I added 20,000 and could not change it later.
Hello and welcome to my fundraising campaign to raise money for medical supplies. I feel somewhat guilty for asking for money because I know there are other people who are in far worse condition than I am.
My name is Jaime. On June 10, 1987 my life changed forever due to an unfortunate gunshot wound I received when I was 14 years old. Long story short, another kid was playing with a loaded handgun and it accidentally discharged striking me in the neck which left me paralyzed.
Because of this I became a C4-C5 quadriplegic. This means my spinal cord was severed between the fourth and fifth cervical vertebrae. I have very limited arm movement and no wrist nor hand movement. I pretty much need 24 hour care which would include bathing, getting dressed, and feeding of which my parents have done for the last 25 years.
My passion is computers and technology. I am the guy who all of the neighbors brings their computer to when they need help. I love helping out where I can up to the limitations of my disability. I spend most of my time on social network websites which allows me some outlet to meet other people. I rarely leave my house other than to attend an occasional movie or go out to eat with close friends. My father and mother have taken for the last 25 years and have kept me very comfortable and healthy. Without them I have no idea what I would do.
The reason why I need this money is specifically for what is called a hoyer lift. This is a mechanical lift that uses a sling and a lift that is used to get me in and out of the bed into my wheelchair. Today, my mother and father use what I call for a lack of a better term the potato sack method. Basically physically lifting me in and out of my bed into my wheelchair. My parents are getting to the age where it is very difficult if not impossible to lift me in that matter anymore. The lift would go a long ways to helping us out. The rest of the donation would go to other medical supplies such as a manual wheelchair and other miscellaneous supplies.
As you are well aware medical supplies are very expensive and my insurance company only allows $1000 per year for durable medical supplies. In reality this means that they will not pay for anything and most of the expenses that I occur for durable medical supplies has come out of my pocket. The over the ceiling hoyer lift itself cost around $5000 installed. I use a mouse stick to type and those are $70. A manual wheelchair cost around $3000 due to the customization it would need for my severe disability. I do not take any government assistance such as SSI.
I know there are other people who are far worse than I am however, if you feel this is a worthy cause feel free to donate. Once again I would like to thank you for considering my campaign and your pending donation. Every little bit of money sure would help me a lot.
By the way, the picture on the campaign shows my mom, my good friend Corey, and me. The reason why they have their hands on my chest like that is because we went to the taste of Colorado and I spilled curry chicken on my T-shirt. They are covering the stains with their hands. God love them.
