"An honest to God rodeo with just a little more panache."

"QUEENS & COWBOYS: A Straight Year on the Gay Rodeo" chronicles a complete season of the International Gay Rodeo Association through the lens of a straight, city-raised filmmaker named Matt Livadary. Roping and riding in 15 rodeos across North America that year, the IGRA's courageous cowboys and cowgirls brave challenges both in and out of the arena on their quest to qualify for the World Finals in October. And along the way, they'll bust every stereotype in the book.

But it's more than just cowboys and rodeos. The film exposes the world to the unsung LGBT community of both the old and new west.  Examining where our country currently stands on the issue of gay rights, this uniquely American subject explores how far we’ve come, and what challenges we still have ahead.

We are reaching out to those individuals who want to break down stereotypes, love movies and realize how hard and difficult it can be to get a great indie film finished. We have shot the entire film, but what we need YOUR help in finishing the post-production elements listed below.  With our minimum goal of $25,000, we can accomplish that effectively in a way that will benefit ALL involved, including YOU!

-The Composing of a compelling, original score by Joachim Cooder, whom has lent his musical expertise to such films as "Primary Colors" and "Lars and the Real Girl."

-The Sound Mixing

-The Color Correction

-Licensing costs of stock footage and photos

-The Graphic Design and Promotional Marketing

-Film Festivals: (submission costs, marketing materials and travel costs.) In order to spread the message, the film needs to be seen! Festivals offer the best opportunity to find an early audience and start the conversation.

Matt Livadary (Director, Producer & Editor)

Matt Livadary is a passionate filmmaker and a Los Angeles native. After graduating from USC’s Cinema School, he worked for several years at the prestigious Creative Artists Agency with clients such as Ang Lee, Spike Jonze and Cameron Crowe. In 2008, Matt worked as a story editor alongside acclaimed director Marc Forster at the production company Apparatus. While working on Queens & Cowboys, he has also made a name for himself creating content for clients including Sony, EA and Comedy Central. A "deep and wide" filmmaker, Matt possesses a talent for showcasing sentimental and broadly appealing content; particularly utilizing playful themes, passionate optimism and nostalgia to connect with his audience—a filmmaker unafraid to show the size of his heart onscreen.

Erin Krozek (Producer)

After graduating from UC Berkeley in 2006, Erin cut her entertainment teeth at the William Morris Agency and as the assistant to Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jason Reitman (THANK YOU FOR SMOKING, JUNO, UP IN THE AIR). Since March 2010, Erin has worked as a Producer in unscripted television and has produced series, pilots, and a TV-movie for networks including A&E, Travel Channel, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Spike TV, and Animal Planet. The proud daughter of a gay father, Erin sees “Queens & Cowboys” not only as a portrait of our country’s complex LGBTQ community, but as an exploration of the universal desire to find the place where we fit.

The International Gay Rodeo Association, http://www.igra.com/, has officially been ropin’ along since 1985 and currently has over 5000 members in 27 chapters around North America. The association puts on massive rodeos across north America using only volunteers -- and all their proceeds go to charity.

Each rodeo has 13 events, 10 you'll find at most standard rodeos (bull riding, chute-dogging, breakaway roping, barrel racing, etc) and 3 playful "camp" events that give the IGRA a fun and unique flare you won't find anywhere else. You don't have to be gay to compete in the gay rodeo -- IGRA rodeos are open to everyone -- gay, straight, cowboys and city-folk alike. But unlike traditional rodeos, the IGRA allows women and men to compete in all 13 events -- so in the IGRA you get to see, for instance, women bull riding and men barrel racing.

The IGRA promotes amateur participation in its rodeos, partly by the "rodeo schools" it hosts throughout the year so novices like myself can learn firsthand how to rodeo.

But the members who comprise the association are what truly set the IGRA apart. They are the most organically kind, welcoming and charitable group of people I've ever met -- and their stories deserve to be shared.

My experience on this film has shown me that no matter how open-minded we might consider ourselves, we can all use more exposure to lifestyles and cultures that differ from our own.  My goal is to deliver this exposure through the unexpected impact the IGRA has made on my life in this uniquely American adventure. By mixing the incredible sense of humor of the men and women of the IGRA with their equally-poignant stories, I hope to tell a rich story that provides the same eye-opening experience to a global audience, both LGBT and straight.
