The Possibilities

You’ve got an iPad loaded with amazing synthesizer & music creation apps, but connecting your controller creates a tangled mess and your mobile device isn't so mobile anymore. PUC makes MIDI connectivity easy. Simply plug your controller into PUC’s MIDI port, establish your WiFi link, and get on with your business – making music. PUC also connects to your Mac for Wireless CoreMIDI control.

The PUC has a suggested MSRP of $129, which when you think of it is a lot cheaper than what it costs when your $69 black dongle-thingy drags your iPad to the floor and does a number on bezel and screen. That's what makes this Indiegogo campaign so awesome for you - you can save a bunch on the PUC and spare yourself the screen repair!

Do you have a MIDI keyboard controller, home digital piano, synthesizer, or computer controller? Connect it to the PUC and put your instrument apps under familiar control.

Use PUC to patch your iOS device as a drum machine, or sequencer.

PUC also makes connecting your keyboard to your iPad simple and convenient if you have a keyboard you bought for piano lessons and wanted to try out a piano instruction app as an alternative.

The PUC is a wireless MIDI interface designed specifically for iOS devices. The PUC allows you to wirelessly connect any MIDI device (keyboard, DJ controller, drum pad, floor pedal controllers, etc.) directly to your iPad. PUC can also work with any platform that supports a MIDI connection over WiFi.

The Vision

When Zivix was developing the proprietary wireless MIDI technology for their award winning JamStik™, we saw the need for "legacy" MIDI gear screaming for the ability to connect wirelessly to iOS apps. Sure, there are a number of gadgets with more wires to tether your gear down with, but "mobile" devices should be just that - mobile. After a couple of hardware and software tweaks, the extracted design’s container got a mobile makeover and the PUC was born! Now everything that has a MIDI port can easily connect to your iPad, iPhone, Mac, and compatible PC.

Where you can help

We are a small company bringing a new type of product to market in a competitive consumer electronics space. While we are confident in our ability to engineer a high quality music interface and ramp it into volume manufacturing, you are the indicator of market demand.

A successful Indiegogo campaign will allow us to fund production tooling and purchase materials in quantities that keep costs down.

Production Plan

Getting the PUC manufactured in mass quantities isn't as easy as sending a CAD-file and schematics off to some widget-maker. We anticipate an initial production run here in the US to maintain quick control over the process to ensure all of the details are managed properly, and are currently in discussions with a number of US vendors for the job. Once we're confident all of the manufacturing related specifics are solved we'll investigate what manufacturing solution is best for the PUC.

The People Behind PUC

Minneapolis based Zivix is known for developing music related technology to enrich the experience of creating and learning music by using today’s most popular devices including iPads, iPhones, Macs and any compatible PCs. Zivix builds products for professional musicians, people who want to become musicians, or people who just want to have fun with musical tools. Zivix developed the award winning JamStik, which has entered its first phase of production, shipping in late December. Additionally the JamStik includes a suite of apps from learning to play guitar, to just having fun remixing music. The team has been actively developing software/apps for across multiple platforms including iOS and Android since 2010.

Risks and Challenges

Zivix has a passionate and experienced team that have built working prototypes of the PUC and extensively tested all of its key technologies. We have relationships with experienced DFM (designed for manufacture) manufacturing partners and the PUC is ready for production. In addition to our engineering expertise, our partners have experienced staff specifically dedicated to managing our supply chain.

At the same time, unexpected challenges will invariably happen, and one or more of these have the potential to negatively impact our shipping schedule:
• Many of our custom parts will initially be sole sourced, which is always a risk
• Manufacturing issues could arise with particular parts
• Natural (or manmade) disasters could impact our supply chain
• Extended reliability and environmental testing could require design changes, as well as the needed certifications (FCC, TUV, UL, etc.) could take longer than expected and/or require design changes
• Dialing in and stabilizing a cosmetic process (anodizing or laser etching) could take longer than expected.
