"Proud initiative" was started in August 2013 to answer the needs of vulnerable LGBT individuals in Lebanon.
The initiative is led by a group of volunteers comprising of a coordinator, a psychologist, a doctor, a lawyer and two English tutors aiming at providing the following services:
psychological, legal, medical support as well as capacity building to empower the beneficiaries.
Within the Proud initiative a project called Whispers was initiated to meet the needs of the LGBT individuals in Lebanon.
at the beginning of September 2013, 12 LGBT individuals approached Proud to benefit from the multiple services and by the end of October 2013 the number of beneficiaries has grown as to reach 50 people. Proud is referring cases to NGOs who can provide direct services and assistance for refugees but in order to cover the needs of the whole LGBT community in Lebanon, Proud intend to be also part of the national LGBT committee.
Although Proud initiative started its work to meet the needs of Syrian refugees, throughout its activities enlarged its target group to refugees of other nationalities as well as to Lebanese due to high demands coming from these different communities.
Proud initiative is aiming at registering as a local NGO in order to complete the work that other NGOs are conducting with respect to LGBT rights.
To be able to achieve the registration process, we are in need of raising the amount of 2.200$
The following amount will cover the registration fee, lawyer fee and surely the printing of the first brochures & flyers that we will use to promote our organization.
