In June 2013 Project Shakespeare was invited by the Royal Shakespeare Company to perform at their outdoor theatre, The Dell, in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England. We were thrilled! But there was a catch-- we had to rehearse the show (Hamlet of all things, no small feat!) and get ten student actors, director and chaperones, plus costumes and sets from New England to Olde in just 8 weeks. We did the math and realized it would cost upwards of $30,000. Daunted but not deterred we begged the RSC to defer our participation until August 2014. Then we dove deep into earning and raising funds. Our summer 2013 season was the most successful in Project Shakespeare's 20 year history and we've spent the last eight months growing the company, expanding our offerings and pursuing every possible funding opportunity. PS students have taken part-time jobs and their families have plunged into helping to fundraise. We're nearly halfway there but we need help!
Get In On the Act!
We're seeking to raise $10,000 towards the $30,000 necessary to bring Hamlet to Shakespeare's birthplace. These funds will subsidize the expenses of students who need financial aid and cover some of the many costs associated with moving one of Shakespeare's greatest dramas across the Atlantic.
Project Shakespeare is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides high-quality educational theatrre instruction to students in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire. More than half the students particpating each summer receive financial aid and the program never turns anyone away if they can't pay. The chance to bring their work to England is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students whose lives have already been changed by the power of theatre and the dedication of Project Shakespeare's powerhouse founder and director, Deborah Shakespeare Thurber.
Your tax-dedcutible donation will help in-need students experience the educational adventure of their lives, providing them with the chance to bring over a year's worth of intense work and dedication to one of the world's greatest stages in the birthplace of one of humanity's greatest artists.
