Pouff3D works with smart phones, you can use your cell phone’s camera offline and the application developed by us for your phone. There is no need to connect your phone to the computer and make calculations in cloud. The application is simple, you don't need to be an expert. It is also compatible with any type of 3D printing devices. This application turns the digitallised material into widely known formats.
The reason why Pouff3D is different is because it does not use a disk to turn around objects. This opens the way to scan objects or shapes that traditional scanners have not been able to handle until now.
Beside its uniqueness, Pouff3D is also a fashionable decor in your home so it will not be in the way. It is a piece of furniture: you can use it as a chair.
Pouff3D will not fall into disuse in a couple of years time. As smart phones develop you change them - but this scanner stays with you. It will renew alongside the new softwares and phones from year to year.
Before the scanning procedure, the software calibrates your phone’s best features so the hardwares used during scanning adjust to your phone. Following the scanning, the file can be printed or may be shared on the Internet, even from your phone.

Pouff3D works the same any flatbed scanners: after placing the object inside, the lid is closed. During scanning the object is invisible to us, we do not hold it in our hands.
Our aim is the avoid trembling hands holding a camera or trying to compensate the movement of the object with special optics, and avoid a software using up a lot of memory space or size precision measured in centimeters. These all rise the cost of the dimensionally accurate scanner.
We have created the right, well researched conditions to use your smart phone camera and hardware for good quality, accurate 3D scanning.
And all these in a cool and stylish object.
What Are the Limits?
True, you cannot scan a bus but it is also impossible to print a bus with a home printer.
Talking seriously: at first we plan to manufacture a one size pouffe with different decor and design. With one size it is possible to optimalise, to define the space needed for the pouffe, its price, and functionality.
Accuracy and Colour Rendering
It depends on your phone optics.If you are not planning to change your phone soon but wish to maintain the high level of dimensional accuracy and colour rendering, you may be interested in the version with separate optics. In this case costs of the separate optics will be built into the price.
The Seat of the Team
The company’s seat is in Sarasota, Florida. We plan to supply the US market with our products from there. However, the development and technical support is in Europe. Product assembly is carried out in both places, depending on the place of delivery. We look for solutions to provide an optimal customer supply.
Product assembly for the US market is carried out in the USA. Also, as our aim is to provide the best quality possible, we constantly test the parts for the final product. We seek out partners, suppliers and assembly shops who can provide the high level of service and high quality material used in manufacturing. The hardware parts are put to strict testing and we look into suggestions that could make the Pouff3D better and more stable.
During the development of the scanner we constantly carry out experiments concerning the hardware and software performance. The current device creates good-quality 3D objects based on cell phone photos. Research have shown that the final quality depends on the accuracy and optical design of the cell phone camera. With the best optical sensor, precision of less than 1mm is possible. Based on experiments with the photos of an iPhone 4, we can say that a precision of 1-2mm is achieved when rendering an object.
The goal of this funding campaign is to build a better prototype.
The first mechanical results are soon to be published. The movement of the cell phone in the prototype is carried out with pre-set parameters. However, our plan is to achieve the control of mechanical movement, using the bluetooth communication channel.
The design has a key role. We believe that when buying a product for the home, it is right to expect an aesthetic experience. We plan to provide a pouffe that is available in different designs, made of different materials. Our aim is to provide a piece of furniture that is not only functional but is a perfect decoration of any home.
To achieve that, we look forward to any feedback on the product apperance.

The development, Milestones and Dates
The development is currently ongoing, the next steps will be determined by the tests on the prototype. The planned schedule:
- Finallising the design: July 31 2014
- Finallising the mechanical hardware, defining and testing parts and materials: September 30 2014
- Finallising the software: December 15 2014
- Choosing suppliers: December 15 2014
- Starting the manufacturing: January 15 2015
- Fulfilling first orders: Mid April 2015
Our aim is is to keep the price around $500.
Due to the design and pouffe-function it is a piece of furniture that could be a great decoration of anyone’s home. Its strenght lies in its multifunctionality, as it blends the currently available highest technology with design. Also, currently available 3D scanners have not been developed for home-use. This is the first affordable 3D scanner in the world suitable for home-use.
We came up with the idea of the scanner 4-5 years ago. András started thinking about how 3D scanners could become available to anyone for an affordable price and what ways a 3D scanner could be used. It was not the right time at that point to make such devices, the technology, softwares and hardwares were not at the right level. About 1 year ago we took up on the idea again, seeing how cell phone and hardware manufacturers tried to bring 3D closer to people. We looked into our opportunities and the tools available. We realised that there are devices of very good quality but they are all aimed at indulstrial users and they are all ugly. We wanted to bring this technology into people’s home but not the version in a grey or black metal case with cables hanging out on all sides. This is where design came into the picture. We though of the pouffe to achive all this.
Also, we wanted to break with the working tradition of table 3D scanners that turn around the object and only check the sides of the objects. Our aim was to create a scanner that scans the object from all sides without moving it. The best solution is when we “go around the object” instead of moving it.
What we aim to achieve:
