Our project aims to give Palestinian youth a much needed platform to express their experiences of life under occupation.
We have created a "Graphic Novels Workshop" that we believe can do just that. We provide the materials and training that allows the Palestinians to produce their own graphic novels. This not only gives them the opportunity to tell their story of what growing up in the Occupied Territory is like but it also opens a direct dialogue between the Palestinian youth and the international community.
We are based at the Sharek Youth Forum in Ramallah, the West Bank and aim to deliver the workshop throughout the West Bank.
The programme is run by Feda who lives in the West Bank and works for the Sharek Youth Forum and two UK volunteers Jon and Alice.
What We Need To Continue With The Programme:
Just £4 (GBP) will fund both the basic training and materials needed for a Palestinian to create their own graphic novel.
Each workshop is delivered to a group of 12-15 Palestinians and costs approximately £60 to run. The basic materials needed to run the workshops are:
- drawing pencils
However, if the programme is to flourish we need to invest in materials that will allow the graphic novels to be dispersed globally, in both a physical and online form.
Therefore we require funding to buy a binding machine that will allow us to transform the graphic novels from an easily destroyed and damaged loose paper form to a more substantial book form. A binder would cost us 950 NIS which translates to £160.
If we meet out primary goals, one of our longer term plans is to digitalise the graphic novels so they can be easily distributed in an online format. To enable us to do this we need to raise the funds to employ a Palestinian who has skills on digital programmes such as "Illustrator".
About The Perks:
For $5 (~£3) you will receive a thank you email.
For $20 (~£12) you will receive a postcard written by some of the students you have funded to participate in the project.
For $40 (~£24) you will receive a postcard as well as a video from some of the students attending a workshop you have helped to fund.
For $70 (~£43) you will receive one of the first completed graphic novels we produce, as well as a personalised thank you note from some of the people who have benefitted and participated in the programme.
