Now is the time for the Fox Cities' 1st bike corral

Help fund the first bike corral in the Fox Cities and make our community a better place to live and work.

Short Summary

The Fox Cities Cycling Association is working with the City of Appleton, Appleton Downtown, Inc. and Harmony Cafe to install the 1st bike corral in the Fox Cities. Bicycle parking is at a premium in downtown Appleton.  The Appleton Common Council approved the bike corral pilot at the February 5, 2014 Council meeting   Click here for legislative history of Item 14-4

Cars don't spend money.  Dollars start to show when you get people walking and exploring College Avenue.  By encouraging people to bicycle downtown, we have an opportunity to create a bicycle and pedestrian friendly customer base.

Bike corrals have been successfully implemented both locally (Milwaukee, Madison and La Crosse) and nationally. Over 100 corrals have been installed in Portland, Oregon! Corrals have many benefits to local businesses.  They provide a 10 to 1 customer to parking space ratio and encourage people to better explore local businesses.

Appleton already has 3,800 automobile parking spaces in the downtown area. We're asking to use just one for the pilot program.

What We Need & What You Get

The total cost of the bike corral is $1650.  We already have received significant donation pledges from ADI and Goodwill.  We need your help to raise an additional $750 to allow us to purchase the corral.  Plan is to have the bike corral operational in May 2014.  See special perks for those contributing at the $10 and up level.

The Impact

We believe this pilot bike corral will provide convenient bike parking for persons that want to bike downtown.  Additionally, the bike corral will send a visible message that Appleton is a bike friendly community.
