Who, What, Why?
My name is Michael DiFilippo, I am a senior at Long Island University and will be graduating in May 2013 with my BFA in Photography. [NOT] A Home is my senior thesis project. I have put my heart and soul into this project. My wallet has also taken a big hit. This work focuses around the central idea of what makes a home. By using dollhouse miniatures I create scenes that are just a little "off" from what we expect. They are vacant of people and each room has something that is just not right about it. This work is like nothing I have done before.
The final prints are quite large, 44x30 some of the largest prints I have ever made. Unfortanetly large prints equal large costs. Along with printing costs I also acquired all of the dollhouse components my self. This project is 100% self funded.
This work has taken 5 months and will all come together in a gallery show at the end of March. I have finished photographing the sets and making my prints. Now I am hoping to share it with others as well as help make back SOME of the money I have put into the project.
What I Need & What You Get
- The dollhouse is only one component. Each room hasd to be furnished and decorated in order to give each image the impact that was desired.
- Printing is a complicated and time consuming process. Multiple test strip prints are made long before any final print is created. Additionally due to the large size handling the prints is a very cautious task as well.
- The cost of all of the dollhouse components alone would stop many from doing what I did but I needed to bring my idea to life. Add in the expensive cost of ink and paper which I had to pay for out of pocket and this project quickly adds up.
I am only looking to make back a small portion of what I spent, in return I want to share the work with you. Whether it is a $1 or $100 you will be able to enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed it.
As a senior college student I have spent the last four years focusing on my work, I have chased the dream that everyone always told me to. I have caught the dream and the costs of tuition, living, along with fees incurred at every stop along the way to getting my Bachelors Degree have caught me.
You will also be spreading my work, by donating you will recieve a piece of original artwork that you can display and show to family and friends. The feeling of your work being shared is one that cannot be explained in words. The feeling is incredible.
Other Ways You Can Help
Don't worry if you can't afford a donation, I understand but perhaps you can pass this campaign along to your friends, and family.
