About The Drive-In
WE LOVE MOVIES! In 2007, the NORTH BAY DRIVE IN began bringing back a retro movie experience too long absent from our local North Bay Area! Since then, our semi-weekly outdoor in-car Summer screenings of a wide variety of cinematic works that you can drive up and watch have become a very popular FREE retro-experience! Plus, there's always exciting prizes and effective, low-cost advertising for local businesses.
We've also been using the very same PROJECTOR since 2007, and the old girl has had a great run but is now past her prime. A venerable and popular HD70 Optoma, our current projector has been a workhorse for many events, but we could enjoy a much brighter, sharper and more 'theater-accurate' experience with a new model, and possibly even push back start times to dusk rather than waiting for pitch darkness for when the days are long in the warmer months!
We have our eye on a couple of significant upgrades by Epson and Optoma in a modestly priced range of less than $1000 and are quite excited by the prospect of bringing a movie experience to our growing community of drive-in fans that's even bigger and better than before!
We've upgraded lots of aspects of the Drive-In recently. We procured a full blown commercial popcorn machine for 2013, we now run on an efficient fuel generator instead of an idling car, have better media (movie) playback and even new lighting for our concession table! We get donations with each show, but over the winter we can't afford much in the way of upgrades or improvements since there's no events to draw from, so this is where INDIEGOGO and your contributions come in!
By upgrading to a mid range $900 projector we're bridging the gap between entry level and professional gear, but it really will be a huge upgrade from what we've had in terms of resolution (from 720P to full 1080P) clarity, detail, color, contrast, brightness for viewing before the sky is totally dark and an even larger viewing area of 30+ feet.

If we don't meet our full goal, depending on how much we get we can still put this money toward a projector upgrade of some sort and possibly sell the old projector to help it along.
We LOVE doing these drive-in style movies, and we depend on your support. Gas, equipment, maintenance, generators, popcorn machines and edible treats are just barely met by donations and concession stand sales. We've had some wonderful donations in the past and those are really the ones that keep us afloat and bringing the Drive-In year after year to Hamilton Field!
By upgrading the projector, we not only greatly improve our moviegoing experience BUT gain a new 'selling point' to bring new members and perhaps someday expand to different and larger venues! One thing we promise will always be constant - FREE DRIVE-IN MOVIES you can come drive up and watch without the rising expense and hassle of a movie theater.
