My name is Kai Daniels Freyleue, and on April 22, 1994, I became the fifth grandchild of famed novelist John Updike. Several years later in 2011, I and three of my friends founded OneTrueGod (http://www.reddit.com/r/onetruegod), which has since become a very popular subreddit.
This summer, I'm making a film called Night Shadow. The film is about a vigilante named Night Shadow who, much like other masked vigilantes, enacts justice upon people who do wrong. In this case, the target is bullies. Night Shadow defends his weaker peers and is feared by all who pick on others, but do his tactics go too far? Or is he truly a hero?
The film features Christina Kirkman, a young actress who was voted the Funniest Kid in America back in 2003 and starred in the cast of Nickelodeon's All That for two years afterwards. It also features a soundtrack by my band, Out of Focus.
What We Need & What You Get
We're aiming for a $10,000 budget. It will go to paying the people working on the film, purchasing necessary equipment and props, recording the soundrack, buying food for the cast and crew, and securing locations. If we don't reach our entire goal, we'll still work with as much as we have and make the best movie we can possibly make.
Perks for helping us out include the Out of Focus soundtrack, a movie poster, the script, access to the production diary, private access to the completed film, and having your name placed in the film's credits. Be sure to include your name and e-mail to get perks!
This film, I feel, puts a different perspective on the anti-bullying movement. It's less about the horrible effects bullying has on the psychology of teens and more about self-defense and building strength, despite bullying. I've seen tons of films and short films and television specials about kids who kill themselves or develop self-harm habits because of relentless bullying. Although that happens, I don't feel that it helps kids who have actually been picked on. This film promotes defending yourself, as well as defending your peers. In addition, if you like stories about masked vigilantes and mysteries (as his true identity is unknown), then you will definitely like this film.
