NATA 2013 Needs Your Help!!
The NewGrounds Annual Tournament of Animation is looking forward to its biggest year yet! Animators from around the world come together in scored brackets to determine who will become the ultimate Champion of Animation for that year.
Where Your Pledge Goes
We're going to put everything that we can into prizes for the contest. However, there are a few costs that we will have to get out of the way first:
- Production and shipping of pledge perks for this campaign
- IndieGoGo charges a 4% fee of the total amount raised. The fee rises to 9% if the goal is not met.
- PayPal carries a fee of about 3% of total transactions.
- 10-15% of pledges (dependent on final total amount) will go to the people that make this contest happen -- including the host, judges and others who pour out hours of work to make it all happen.
- Everything else will go towards prizes in the tournament!
Note: Donations by sponsors such as Adobe and NewGrounds are not affected by these divisions and will be 100% tournament prizes.
Extra Goals, Extra Awesome Stuff
If we reach these amounts above and beyond the initial $2,000 goal, we can do even more!
Reach $3,000 --> Physical Engraved Trophy
That's right! If we get up to this goal, the Champion of Animation 2013 will recieve an actual trophy with their name engraved on it. Cool!
Reach $4,000 --> Special Features on the DVD
If we get this much, we'll make some special features for the DVD. Perhaps a short documentary, bonus concept art, or other goodies. Who knows?
Testimony by R. Wappin
R. Wappin was the first ever Champion of Animation back in 2007.
"I was the TOFA/NATA champion way back when it started on AlbinoBlackSheep forums in 2007. We were already a small community of animators that learned from each other and knew each one's style, but then one day NitWitt had the idea of making this tournament. Everyone got really into it, and it was the first time where we all got creative at once, in an effort to best each other. There was a small prize but back then it was really just for shits and giggles.
Since then TOFA/NATA has grown into an annual event with huge prizes that pulls in new faces every year. Some do it to test their abilities, some in hopes for the prize, and some just for fun, but one of the greatest things about it that it lets you create independently while also being part of the community. Many of the people I was in TOFA/NATA with are still friends to this day and have even collaborated with me on other projects.
Here's hoping this year's NATA creates new partnerships, as well as probably some new rivalries. Both are always fun! It's a test not just of creativity and ability but also time management and endurance. Donate to NATA this year and make it the best experience it can be!"
