My Open Road (MOR) is a social energy conservation app, founded by ex-Disney Imagineer Jeff Weiss. This app promotes social change and incentivizes saving energy by encouraging the use of alternative transportation (i.e. walking, biking, riding by rail, etc.) and providing users with real-world rewards, such as specials and discounts from select retail merchants. MOR simply makes saving energy a fun and engaging activity by enabling users to socially compete to see who can use the most energy efficient means possible to get around in their day-to-day travels. 

MOR was developed to help raise global warming awareness and reduce our carbon footprint. A considerable amount of evidence clearly shows that daily human activities can result in the release of greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide that can alter the chemical composition of the atmosphere leading to global warming  and climate change. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the combustion of fossil fuels and diesel in automotive vehicles is the second largest source of CO2 emissions, accounting for 31 percent of total U.S. CO2 emissions in 2012. 

With the good of the environment and a clean future in mind, we hope to get the support we need to launch a global initiative through the MOR app that can be applied not only on a personal level, but consumer, enterprise and global levels as well. In addition to encouraging users to reduce CO2 emissions, MOR promotes:

  • Energy Efficiency - MOR encourages users to get out of their cars and find new alternative forms of transportation, reducing our daily use of fossil fuels and diesel.
  • Safer Driving - MOR is compatible with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road when driving.
  • Healthier Lifestyle - MOR encourages users to be more active in their daily travels by promoting the use of alternative transportation, such as walking or riding a bike.

    "How it Works"

    MOR's patent-pending mobile technology can detect a wide variety of transportation mechanisms that a user might take to get from point A to point B. The technology uses different “modes” of travel to identify when a user is driving a car, car pooling, commuting, traveling by rail, biking, or just walking. Each mode of travel is assigned a “Social Responsibility Score” based on its energy efficiency (illustrated below). The technology is unique in that it ties saving energy into a positive reinforcement rewards based marketing system. 

    MOR achieves gamification by assigning a “Social Responsibility Score” to each mode of travel based on its energy efficiency. The more energy efficient the choice of travel, the higher his or her Social Responsibility Score will be. But, it's not just about making good choices. Users also need to stay consistently active. Therefore, each score is based on daily travel choices, so the app will begin to lower a user's score daily if he or she becomes inactive. 

    The users is rewarded by using their  “Social Responsibility Score”  to unlock specials and discounts within MOR's network of socially responsible merchants. (e.g., a “buy-one, get one free” entrée offer at a restaurant with a SRS of 800 or better).

    Our goal (with your help) is to reduce C02 emissions  by more than 2,000,000 (2 million) tons worldwide (Equivalent to getting more than 40,000 older diesel trucks off the road) over the next 5 years.

    This campaign is not so much about building the newest mobile app, or building a new marketing system. It’s about building a new way for everyone to work together, make measurable reductions in our energy usage and carbon footprint, and protect the environment.

    As part of our charitable giving, 10% of every dollar contributed to this campaign will be donated to the CoastKeeper. Coastkeeper is a nonprofit clean water organization that serves as a proactive steward of our fresh and saltwater ecosystems.

    Mr. Weiss is an inventor, entrepreneur, and computer specialist. He has built a successful 20-year career in the IT industry. Mr. Weiss has worked extensively in IT Services at the Walt Disney Company, including work at Disney Imagineering’s research and development group under the direction of Bran Ferren.

    Mr. Kumra is an award-winning entrepreneur and public speaker recently recognized by the White House as one of the top 100 young entrepreneurs. Ash is also a co-leader for "Startup America" and chairman for the Orange County-based Tech Coast Venture Network.     Wing Lam – Strategic Marketing

    Wing Lam, Co-Founder of Wahoo's Fish Taco, is the face of the surf-inspired taco chain, with 65 restaurants in seven states. Wahoo's, the fast-casual taco chain, serves up grilled fish tacos with Asian and Brazilian influences in brightly colored restaurants, where the walls are covered floor to ceiling with stickers and surfing memorabilia. Wing directs My Open Road on cross promotion opportunities and helps model the company's California-based culture.

    Ms. Le is My Open Road's co-founder and provides management oversight and directs all significant financial aspects of the company, including risk management and financial compliance operations. Over the course of her career, she has held various management positions with large utilities, including a large engineering, procurement, and construction firm specializing in large-scale solar and renewable power generation projects.

    Mr. Bruno is a technically sophisticated and certified Security Management Executive focusing on Technology Convergence, Digital Asset Management & Protection, Digital Media Distribution, Identity & Access Management, and Physical Security.
