Michigan Dance Project was founded in 2006 by Kathy King in an effort to offer local dancers more opportunities to perform and continue training in a professional atmosphere. Since our inception, MDP has performed throughout Southeast MI, including such places as the University of Michigan-Flint Theatre, Wayne State University, Riverside Arts Center, Howell Opera House, and the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts.
Currently, MDP is working on their new project "SoulMates", an evening length work choreographed by director Kathy King and assistant creative director Travis Staton-Marrero. This work has already been a life-changing experience for the 16 dancers involved, and we're on a mission to share that experience with you!
Who are we? Michigan Dance Project is still under the direction of Kathy King, and this season she is joined by assistant creative director Travis Staton-Marrero. We have seven company members and seven apprentice members. We are also very lucky to work closely with two incredibly talented photographers, George Petersmarck and Ken Hornak, and we welcome lighting designer Jessica Back to the team this season. Our rehearsal home is in Brighton, MI at Michelle's Academy of Dance & Performing Arts Center (MADPAC), and we are forever grateful to studio owner Michelle Marzejon for her generous donation of space since the beginning!

people inspire passion in others and make this world a better place!
By pursuing our intense passion for dance and the human soul, we are on a
mission to spread that love to the world, but we can't do it alone!
money raised through this campaign is vital to not only the survival of
"SoulMates", but also to the growth of the Michigan Dance Project
organization. We work hard every weekend, beginning in September,
training and rehearsing (without pay) to bring you the best show
possible. It's all a labor of love! Without this funding, we will not
be able to afford the theatre rental costs and will have to cancel our
currently booked shows at the UofM-Flint Theatre (Jan. 22, 2012 - Flint,
MI) and the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts (Feb. 18, 2012 -
Brighton, MI) That leaves 16 dancers, and over a dozen technical staff
members out of work!
What We Need & What You Get
(Photo: Michigan Dance Project Company Dancer Emily Turner, Credit: Ken Hornak)
$5,200 - that's what we need to make "SoulMates" a reality.
Where is it going?
Theatre rental ($75 - $150 per hour), technical crew ($10-$15 per
hour), costuming ($30 - $100 per costume X's 14 performers),
program/flyer printing ($100-$300 per show), plus dancer salary.
What do you get if you donate? Well, for starters, a giant hug (an electronic hug if you can't make it to the show in person),
and an even bigger THANK YOU! But, we know you'd probably appreciate
more than just a hug, so we're offering various perks at various levels
of donation. Perks include meet & greet with the company, free
tickets, your name listed in the program, MDP swag, and more!
Plus, you can feel great knowing that you're helping to support the arts community right here at home in Michigan, and trust us, there is some mighty fierce talent here that needs to be seen!
