Funds are requested to support Miami Photo Salon, a week-long International Photo Festival that will promote interaction among different communities within Miami Dade County, encourage the participation of the general public in a fine art venue, and empower emerging artists by providing local talent with the exposure they need to advance their careers. This event will be held at the Wolfson Audiorium/Kaplan Hall of the Temple Israel in downtown Miami during the week of Art Basel, in the heart of the activity generated by visiting international art fairs. This location will provide unprecedented visibility for artists who may be exhibiting work for the first time or who have no previous exhibition history in the US. This project promotes interaction among diverse communities across South Florida, and and uncover exhibition opportunities within the US and internationally.
MPSF supports local emerging artists by providing international exposure and the opportunity to have their work seen at a time when Miami is hosting the most important international art event in the world. These artist’s careers will also benefit from exhibiting their work alongside the work of recognized international artists. Because the event will be so highly visible due to its venue and timing, our selection committee will be adhering to the highest curatorial standards when selecting work for this exhibit.
Miami Photo Salon encourages the participation of the general public, and encourages local artists to submit work even if they’ve never exhibited before. By providing a yearly opportunity for local artists to exhibit work to a global public, the discipline of photography will be elevated and strengthened in Miami, reaching the level of excellence and visibility that Miami’s visual art community has achieved.
