The Story of Teraphim
Teraphim is an ancient Hebrew phrase with a mysterious etymology. Loosely translated as "household Idols" or "pagan images", to some Hebrew scholars, the phrase likely means something even darker, once being translated poetically to mean "disgraceful things".
Disgraceful Things: as we began the process of story-boarding and writing our next album, this phrase began to haunt us as artists. As we'd create and edit each new song for the record, a musical journey through the prophecies of Ezekiel, we knew we were treading frightfully dark waters. Ezekiel is not a light volume, nor a tale to be treated lightly. And as we wrote to convey such a powerful piece of literature through music, again and again we found ourselves stricken with the power of the Hebrew voice: Teraphim. And so the phrase quickly became our story's thesis, and, eventually, the album's official title. The journey to complete and perfect Teraphim has been one of great labor, but now we are VERY excited to announce that we are ready to release this beautiful work of sound, our sophomore release, in the spring of 2014!
This Time, Matter is Going All Out
As many of you are aware, we self-produced, recorded, mixed and mastered our debut LP, The Man and the Terror, on our very own, with an extremely limited budget, all in our guitarist's bedroom. The experience was great and the album turned out and sold better than we could have ever imagined--all thanks to you, our supportive family, friends and fans! But as our fan base quickly grew over the past year and as we seriously began to consider creating another record, we knew we wanted to go all out and make Teraphim as absolutely quality as possible. So we've hired on seasoned producer Erik Ron as Teraphim's official engineer and Nicola Honey as the album's professional artist. And, from what you've probably already heard and seen, the story of Teraphim is taking our musical vision to a whole new level of power and beauty!
But, Matter Needs Your Help
With quality comes price. At the end of the project, Teraphim will cost us over $11,000. Here's the breakdown:
- $9000 for recording
- $1000 for mastering
- $800 for artwork
- $800 for production and packaging
That probably looks like a huge number, and in some respects it is, but this budget line is incredibly moderate compared to the usual expenses of recording and producing a full length album. We have been MAJORLY blessed with fantastic rates and donations from those in the business. Matter has already thrown down $3000 of our own money to get the ball rolling, but that extra $8,600 is still staring us down, and without the financial support of our family, friends and fans like you, Teraphim is simply not going to happen.
And So We Ask For Your Support, But Not Without Benefits----->
Crowd-funding is a humbling experience and can be daunting. We'd be lying to say we aren't a bit nervous about the whole process. Asking for money isn't easy, and these days people have a hard time trusting what to give to anymore. But crowd-funding is also an incredibly freeing and powerful tool when used correctly. You, the fan, directly support us as a band. We, the band, directly deliver to you our music and merch when it's ready. No middle men. No contracts. No crap. Every donation can receive a solid take-away: so we're basically using this site as a really easy to use pre-order system! It's a win-win!
Now, raising $8,600+ for this project may sound like a big deal, but we believe in you guys! Just a few major donations can really make it happen--and that'd be just fine!-- but consider even the smallest contributions:
We have well over 6500 real, online fans. If you each gave $10, we'd make $65,000. What we could do with that amount would be AMAZING! But, let's be a little more realistic. Let's say half, 3250 people, give only $5 (the lowest give amount and the price for our digital download). That would still make up $16,250: almost double of what we actually need! Even the smallest gifts will add up to make this campaign a real success.
**FOR THE PERKS THAT REQUIRE SHIPPING, IF YOU FORGOT TO ADD IT INTO YOUR CONTRIBUTION, PLEASE JUST MAKE A "NO PERK" CONTRIBUTION FOR THE PROPER SHIPPING AMOUNT. NO WORRIES IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD SHIPPING, BUT IT HELPS RAISE MONEY QUICKER-- NOT LOSE IT. THANKS!
**REMEMBER TO ENTER ACCURATE EMAILS AND ADDRESSES FOR PERKS. THERE'S NO WAY WE CAN BE LIABLE FOR WRONG INFO.
**NOTE ABOUT SIZES: FOR THE PERKS THAT INCLUDE SHIRTS/HOODIES, PLEASE WRITE YOUR SIZE NEXT TO YOUR NAME WHEN YOU ENTER IT. IF YOU'VE ALREADY ORDERED AND FORGOT TO INCLUDE YOUR SIZE, WE WILL CONTACT YOU BY EMAIL.
What if I don't have the money to give, can I still help?
As we showed above, even the smallest amount, in large quantities, goes a long way! We'd take 1000 teenaged fans giving at $5 each for our music any day! But, sometimes, you just can't give money. We totally get that, but you can still totally help us out! The best way to help, even after you do financially support, is always word of mouth:
- Share our Indiegogo link with people who are interested in new music similar to our style and ask them if they'd be down to support us.
- Retweet and share our posts and updates about the campaign to make Teraphim happen.
- Share our music with people who might like our style and let them know we've got new music coming out.
- Talk to any and all local music professionals you may know about us and tell them to get in contact with us about getting the word out.
ONLY TOGETHER, we can make TERAPHIM a 2014 musical epic to remember! Thank you for your time and support!
WE LOVE YOU ALL!
