About LA Zine Fest

We at the L.A. Zine Fest (LAZF) are dedicated to promoting zine culture as a means to connect the pre-existing communities in L.A.–artistic and otherwise. We believe that by embracing the urge to create and to share ideas, the local zine community can increase its presence and flourish. Throughout the year, LAZF’s organizers put on zine panels and workshops throughout the city, but it all builds up to the Zine Fest: an opportunity for zinesters local and far-flung to meet and exchange ideas with each other and with all of Los Angeles!

The third annual L.A. Zine Fest will take place on February 16, 2014 at the Helms Bakery complex in Culver City.  We are excited to have a roomy venue that can accommodate our steadily growing numbers--we hope to avoid last year’s lines around the block! LAZF’s organizers are hard at work on the schedule for 2014’s LAZF and are planning incredible workshops, panels, and readings throughout the day.  


Where does your money go?

We break it down in the video, but since filming, we've found out about new expenses that we may have, such as paying for fire marshall visits and for on-site security. Because we have a new venue each year, there are always last-minute expenses popping up--some permit we find out about at the last minute; extra lights we didn’t know we’d need. Every cent goes toward producing this and future events. 

What do you get for donating?

First and foremost, when you donate, you are doing your part to ensure that the L.A. Zine Fest happens this February.  We are not being dramatic: this thing is expensive and we just don’t have all the money. We knocked off a big chunk of the event costs by hustling to get a venue donated, but we’re going to need some help with the rest. For your generosity, you will be rewarded...

  • Admission to our vendor-only preview on February 15 ($100 donation; limit 15) 

  • Host a podcast night on Family Dinner Radio! Invite up to 3 guests; drinks and snacks included. You will be interviewed by the LAZF crew and Brodie Foster Hubbard from Shakeytown Radio. ($150 donation; limit 3) 

  • Be a guest DJ on KXLU 88.9FM! There are a couple of rules you must follow, but apart from that, go nuts. ($500 donation; limit 2) 

 

  • Have a full-on zine workshop and screen printing demo at your house/school/organization for up to 20 people! We'll get the party started for ages 8 and up (no babies, dude). We bring all the materials and THREE DOZEN COOKIES (vegan and gluten-free options are on the table). ($800 donation; limit 3)
