Take a Table-Top Trip to Michigan's Historic Heart of the Great Lakes!
NOTE: Due to recent publicity, or campaign has been extended until June 27, 2014.
If you're like us, you love to visit Mackinac Island, but you can only visit occasionally. We created Mackinac Island Treasure Hunt Card and Board Games (MITH) as a fun way to re-create the best things about a trip to the Island: Discovering new things, exploring the woods and historic places, and good times with friends and family.
In a world where everything is moving fast and technology mediates most human interaction, we think that a board game can give you good times with those you love (or, at least those you get along with reasonably well), just like a trip to Mackinac Island.
A Game to Grow Into
The five different games that come with MITH let you choose the experience you want based on the available players (2 to 8 people can play), the amount of time you have, or how much you want to think. While some of the games share common rules and themes (for example, each game features some sort of nature observation), each is a completely separate game. We designed the games to be challenging and fun and infinitely replayable. You can learn about the Island as you play, though they are not trivia games.
We appreciate euro-game sensibilities, so these are games that require strategic thinking. Each turn you'll have several paths to take that may affect how the game progresses for you later.
Match Me if You Can is an Authors Cards-style set collection card game that can be fun for mixed age groups.
The Nature Hike is a roll-and-move game of nature observation. Each turn you have to find the path that will allow you to see the most plants, animals, and natural features (and score the most points).
The Scavenger Hunt is a cooperative game that has players planning together to find a set of hidden treasures before Winter arrives.
The Hide and Seek game tests your memory as each turn reveals the hiding place of a historical treasure on the Island for you to collect...if you can remember where it is.
- The Treasure Hunt has you playing the sleuth, asking questions of the other players in order to discover the treasures they have hidden around the Island.
Inside the box is a game board, 126 playing cards, 24 hiding place cards, 8 pawns, 8 scoring markers, one season marker, 3 turn summary cards, one scoring track card, and a 24-page rule book and field guide.
You Enable Michigan Made!
MITH is completely designed and tested. See some of the play tester's comments here. The examples you see on this page were printed by a print-on-demand board game manufacturer which, while beautiful, come at a high price and from outside of Michigan. In order to get the cost to a reasonable level, we have to have MITH printed by a large volume game manufacturer. Luckily, one of the premiere game manufacturers in the World is located in Battle Creek, Michigan! We have chosen Delano Service to manufacture our game. To get to our price sweet spot we need to make about 2500 games. We're willing to fund some of this ourselves, but you can make MITH a reality by donating whatever you can. Please check out our great perks to guide your decision.
Your donation will also allow us to sell MITH in stores and online, a portion of the proceeds from which will go to help Mackinac State Historic Parks preserve this wonderful place for coming generations.
With a Michigan-based design team, a Michigan-based manufacturer, a Michigan-based fulfillment company, and your help, MITH will be a mostly Michigan-made product*.
*The pawns and markers will be made in the USA.
|MITH was designed by Jim Muratzki, who has been playing and designing board games for as long as he can remember.||The game includes over 90 photographs by Barbara Overdier, who has a knack for showing you things in a new way.||The primary artwork was done by Glenn Wolff, a Traverse City-based artist and teacher whose work has appeared in books by Janine Benyus and Jerry Dennis and in the New York Times, among many others.||Ralph Hashoian, artist, teacher, and cartoonist, provided the historical treasure illustrations.|
Without your support, MITH won't happen. We're offering lots of great perks to make it easy for you to be a part of this great new way to experience the past and present Mackinac Island. Please participate at whatever level works for you, and we'll thank you.
Let other Mackinac Island fans you know about MITH and think how good our gratitude will make you feel about yourself!
See you on the Island!
