Short SummaryTaiwan tea culture is a very unique art of lifestyle. I learned to appreciate the truth, goodness, and beauty of life through making tea process. And I keep exchanging the experiences with Taiwan friends for many years. Hence, I asked myself, "Since it is so great, why not sharing such fascinating experiences with people in the world?" Having this idea, I decided to make a series of tutorials of making Taiwan tea. I hope it can lower down the entry barriers for beginners to quickly make a good pot of tea on ones' own. I hope the tutorials can let making tea more easily in person, at home, at work, or even for a banquet! And most importantly, I wish people can enjoy it and feel more fulfilled when giving it a try! Hence, I plan to produce the teaching contents more internationally so that more people can see and understand. At the same time, I am also finding assistance for surveying proper internet systems which can provide easy-to-use services for individuals to learn online in the future.
What We Need
My goal is to produce series of tutorials online, to demo how to make good Taiwan tea. Currently, I planned several units of the tutorials, which will also introduce many Taiwan’s famous teas. Here are the the planned lessons:
- Introduction of Taiwan tea culture
- How to make a pot of tea and appreciate it - Fundamental rules and practical exercises
- Non-fermented Tea (Sanxia Green Tea) - Techniques of making cold tea
- Lightly-fermented Tea (Jinxuan Oolong Tea) - Method of small pot
- Heavily-fermented Tea (Oriental Beauty Tea) - Method of covered tea bowl
- Fully-fermented Tea (Sun Moon Lake Black Tea) - Techniques of making large capacity tea
I hope in the end result I will have 2 or 3 units in each lesson, including static contents or videos depending on the topics. That means there will be around 18~20 units of the course in total, in which it can cover most important core knowledges and skills for making good Taiwan tea. For example, below is a common tea set to experience Taiwan tea culture:
In this Indiegogo project, the core activities are to prepare the tutorial lessons. However, what I need partially relates to some professions, such as handouts design and editing, tutorial video making, and even technical jobs of publishing them on e-learning platform. Although making a good pot of tea is not hard to me, I am not so familiar with most of the mentioned professions. I hope the fundings can support some of these expenses and eliminate the obstacles. Hence, the funding will be mainly spent in the following categories:
- Creating video tutorials ($4,950)
- Video editing ($4,200)
- Website development ($3,450)
- Cost for tangibles (venue, tea, equipment etc) ($2,400)
Where will the fund go if we achieve the goal and get even more? Wow... That sounds fantastic! In our current plan, everything will be done by ourselves or volunteer friends. But if it is financially sufficient, we can find more professional resources to join in! Then the quality and tutorial materials you get could upgrade to a next level! The following is a sample video clip of tea performance demonstration, and we would like to improve it:
Speaking of the planned schedule, we want to publish the lessons online before February 2014. And we are planning to ship the gifts to the supporters during December 2013!

Tea is the world's 2nd largest consumed beverage, just less than drinking water. Tea in the globe has been produced more than 4 million tons, in which 71% is made as black tea, 25% green tea, and the remaining 4% is semi-fermented tea. Around half of semi-fermented tea are Formosa Oolong tea, produced from Taiwan. As early as 160 years ago, this gift from God, Formosa tea, had become famous in the world.
Join us!! We believe people who support this campaign will not only greatly help us to achieve the goal closer and faster, but also help people to rediscover this daily drinking beverage with grateful heart! Taiwan tea is so precious that it is very limited and difficult to get from outside of Taiwan (Some good tea is even very hard to buy in Taiwan!). Taiwan tea is an interesting way to experience Taiwan culture, and it is an endless journey for us! We step on here in Indiegogo, and we will keep going internationally with your encouragement and assistance! Let's participate this Taiwan tea culture trip!!
