I really wish you could see how hard I am trying to be everything you say I should be. I buy almost everything you suggest regardless of if I like it or not. I try not to eat alot so, I can be skinny like the girls on TV and In the magazines. I try my hardest to fit in even if that means making fun of others knowing it is wrong. I do things that I think the boys will like so, they will think I am pretty. I try really hard and I still don't think I am pretty enough, skinny enough, dark enough, light enough, popular enough or like enough! What else can I do?
Lilies & Violets a natural personal care brand for girls between the ages of 5 – 17.
I am beautiful because I am me; not who you think I should be
Mission: Beauty comes in all different colors, shapes and sizes. Our mission at Lilies & Violets is to empower girls to celebrate, love and embrace natural beauty. Lilies & Violets takes a non-toxic approach in all we do. Meaning are products are non-toxic in addition to the values we support.
It is important that we create and support a culture for young girls where value is not about the image of self but about the greatness you achieve while loving and being true to yourself.
Lilies & Violets is the daughter brand of Daisy’s Roses that launched last year in May of 2012. Daisy’s Roses is a natural brand that celebrates natural beauty in the skin you are in. Daisy’s Roses is named after my grandmother Daisy whom I never met she took her life at the age 27 leaving behind 7 children.
I do not know the weight of her load or what it even consisted of that caused her to leave here without meeting me, her other grandchildren or great children. But what I do know is that she inspired me to want to help people feel good about themselves.
When I launched Daisy’s Roses all I knew I wanted a line for girls focusing on natural beauty and of course outreach within the community. I had no idea it would be this big.
When I began researching beauty trends for girls my eyes were opened wide. I always felt as though society projected a false sense of beauty for girls and women. However I was very uneducated on just how damaging the media can be to our youth.
Science suggests that the ideas of beauty begin to take formation in childhood. The pressure for young girls to conform to what media identifies as the image of beauty leads them constantly grasping for something that does not exist.
This pressure begins to influence the way our young people shop, talk, eat, communicate and view themselves either better or worse.
This in turn can lead to depression, eating disorders, bullying, and substance abuse, victims of violent crimes and many other damaging behaviors or life changes.
During our campaign and beyond we feel as though it is important to share what we have learned with you and are interested in hearing thoughts, questions and or suggestions.
