I am Akshay Pradeep and I am a filmmaking student based in Los Angeles. I come from Mumbai, India and I am highly passionate about movies and hope to make a career in this field. I am in my final year of film school and ‘Level Up’ is my thesis short film which I want to make the best possible. With this film, I would like to get more opportunities to advance my craft and my career.

‘Level Up’ is a comedy short film about Benny, a man in his mid-twenties, who realizes that Vineet, his high school bully, is now his neighbour. With the help of his best friend Sydney, he learns to stand up to him.

‘Level Up’ is about a very important human quality and that is confidence. We have all had times when we never feel confident and this film is about having it to face challenges. It’s about self-esteem and about asserting yourself. In this case, the film’s protagonist Benny needs a lot of self-belief to face his bully Vineet.

I myself was bullied in high school and it did have a big impact on my confidence. There were times when I felt very passive and few times I was able to stand up for myself. Through this film, I want to personally connect to the subject and send a positive message to others.

Filmmaking is an expensive art form therefore a lot of money and resources are needed.  All of the money raised in the campaign will go into things such as:

  • Locations
  • Insurance
  • Catering
  • Transportation (Van rentals)
  • Props
  • Production Design
  • Post-production (Color correction, music, sound design)
  • Festival fees

I want this film to reach out to as many people as possible as this is a story that I strongly believe needs to be told. I believe audiences will connect to this film’s subject as being bullied or intimidated is a highly common human experience. I would want this film to give hope and joy to people, especially those who feel bullied and inferior about themselves. If you are not able to contribute to this campaign, you can always share it with a lot of people on any of your social media networks or through word-of-mouth.
