RAW LUV BAR
Raw Luv Bar Story: Raw Luv Bar was created in my home kitchen because I wanted to make a healthy snack for my mother and I. Mom and I are both chocolate lovers; Therefore, cocoa a must have ingredient! My goal was to make the bars both delicious and highly nutritious. I combined some of my favorite oatmeal toppings (chia, hemp, flax and pumpkin seeds) with raw cocoa, nuts and dried fruit to achieve that goal. No added oil, No added sweeteners, and the bars were still a big hit with mom!
Mom and I managed to save some of the bars to enjoy later. A couple of days later, I shared a few of my homemade snack bars with my acupuncturist, Tracey Byer, as a thank you for healing my wrist. During my next visit to Olo Acupuncture, Tracey encouraged me to start a snack bar business because she loved that the bars were yummy and healthy. She also informed me that the owner of Olo Acupuncture, with whom she had shared the bars, was interested in ordering the bars as an office snack.
As a result, I began distributing samples of the bars to friends, businesses in the community and retailer stores. In about three weeks, several establishments began expressing interest in placing orders: a boutique hotel, a local Harlem heath food store and Harlem Skin Clinic.
Raw Luv Bar - Progress:
I have formally registered/established the company; Obtained my Food Protection Certification; Secured shared commercial kitchen space; Developed Raw Luv Bar in two flavors: Chia-Cocoa & Hemp-Seed Cocoa; Hired a wonderful artist who designed Raw Luv Bar's logo and package label; Requested quotes for full nutrition analysis; Filled an order of snack bars at a boutique hotel to be gifted as a preferred customer amenity; Held a tasting at Harlem Skin Clinic; and participated as a food sponsor at a Health Harvest event presented by Amy Height at From The Ground Up Wellness and Yoga Instructor, Randi Zinn.
I am professionally trained as an attorney, but my true passion is food, especially chocolate. For the past several years I have worked as an advocate for jazz artists and legal analyst. For a several reasons (none of them very good) I had convinced myself that the timing for becoming an entrepreneurial foodie would be much later. In the meantime, I dreamed of starting a company that honored my food journey.
My travels began in an effort to combat severe adult acne and family history of diabetes. It has been 12 years since I made the shift from processed junk foods to whole and nutrient rich foods. It was a win-win for both my skin and my overall health. Thanks to the joy of sharing food and enthusiastic tasters I know that now is the time for a new kind of bar-- Raw Luv Bar!
