"Land of Smiles" is a passion project I've been working on for years even though this manifestation is only a few months old. I had the opportunity to live in Thailand for six months, living and working with students and orphans. It was amazing and forever sealed Thailand in my heart. There is a foul side to the country though: it is one of the biggest hotbeds for human trafficking. Every year hundreds of thousands of children are kidnapped and sold to pimps and forced to sleep with adults. Escape is rarely an option for them. "Land of Smiles" tells the story of a man who is trying to be that bridge, to free those who can't free themselves.
What We Need & What You Get
Thankfully, the school I am enrolled in is providing the camera (RED Epic), the lighting, and the sound. What I do need is a soundstage, materials to build the set, Worker's Comp insurance, and a location permit.
The majority of the funds raised would go to the soundstage and the set materials. I want to portray this brothel as nothing less than hell, and to do that successfully I will need a great set.
If we do not reach our goal then we will take whatever we do make and move to our backup script. No matter what there WILL be a film and you WILL get your wonderful perks!
My dreams for this film are twofold: one, the more self-centered one, is to be able to use it to push my career as a director to the next level. The second is to find a way to use this as a platform to help those who have been victimized by human trafficking and those organizations that have devoted themselves to the cause.
This is the biggest project I have worked on yet. If you decide to donate please know that you will be changing my life in such a way that can never be forgotten. To everyone who donates, $2 or $1000, you have my greatest thanks.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't donate but you like the concept then please share and promote the campaign to the people in your circle. Advertisement is just as important as fundraising. If you share you are just as awesome as those who donate. Thank you again to everyone who even took the time to check this project out.
