Our Film: Just South of NorthThe story of Just South of North follows a precocious sixteen year old girl named Jillian who is dealing with the trials and tribulations of growing up in a small rural Ohio town. Jillian just had her sixteenth birthday, got her driver's license, and decides she can now find her mother, whom she has not seen since childhood.
The characters in this film are equally as important as their stories. This is why we have made a character trailer during our pre-production, to help show you a day in our character's lives. You may find the character's daily lives simple and filled with angst, which they certainly are, but that is where most of us start our lives as we enter adulthood. It is the story after the angst that is always the most interesting. What forced you to become an adult? Why can we not return to childhood?
Sibling dynamics and rivalries are rooted in human storytelling, from The Royal Tenenbaums to Romulus and Remus. In our story, we have a simple but curious girl, who has been forced to become the matriarch of a male dominated household. She was not prepared for this duty and nor were the men in her life.

Just South of North's Characters:
Jillian: A precocious girl growing up in rural Southeastern Ohio. She has dirty blonde hair and wears the shoes of her mother (both literally and figuratively).
Stanley Jr. : A vegan metal head, trying to rebel against his family and town. His hair is as black as his soul. He is a monotone asshole with his middle finger to the world.
Stanley Sr. (father of the children): A beer drinking, red blooded, rural American. By day he works the same job he has since high school, a local butcher, and by night he watches ESPN and NASCAR. He has inklings of compassion towards his children but he has never fully adjusted to fatherhood.
Stranger Woman: A sassy and well to do upper lower class woman. She is rural through and through but likes to keep a nice home and keep her appearance just the same.
The Children's Mother (“Stephanie Lambright"): A put together middle aged woman who has left a life in a small rural town for something bigger. She looks slightly worn after two children but has the resolve of a desperate housewife, desperate in her own selfish desire of more.
The Mother's New Husband: A tall and handsome business man's man. More white collar than blue but still has the strength to do yard work if he feels like it.
What Your Donation Really Means to Us
- Two Very Special Reasons
1. Money=Production & Value=Believability
Every person working on this short film has an unconditional passion for filmmaking and want to tell stories about the world we live in. We want to make films for a living and with a great short film, that can be possible. What industry professionals are looking for is quality filmmaking and a unique fresh story. We know we have the story but more importantly, the quality of our project is nothing without money. Your donations and your help are all contributing to the realism, production value, and quality of our product by allowing us to ensure that all aspects of our production are the best that they can be.
We are deeply grateful that you believe in us as much as we do.
2. Ohio needs more films that are taken seriously
Despite what most people may think, Ohio is a wonderful place. It is rich with culture, contains beautiful landscapes, and is filled with great people with real stories. Just South of North is the first in a series of many projects from us, that will take place in the state of Ohio.
We were recently inspired and made proud, by an article that circulated the internet earlier this year:
This video discusses the coming of age movie Kings of Summer that was filmed in Chagrin Falls, Ohio and reveals why filming in Ohio was such an incredible experience for the cast and crew.
As filmmakers we want to keep this movement going. We want our film to showcase the beauty of Ohio, the people who live here, and show the filmmaking community that Ohio has great potential.
Your donations and your help will really make this film!
