VegCo is a 100% plant-based (vegan) supermarket focused on providing an extensive variety of high quality foods at truly reasonable prices. VegCo is designed to fit into roughly 12,000 square feet of space, making it the largest vegan supermarket in the United States. An optimal building in Central Phoenix, AZ  has been located with the intention to transform it into the first chic, stylish and sustainable VegCo Market.

The VegCo Mission

VegCo takes a holistic approach to sustainability and incorporates the following commitments into the market:

-VegCo will NEVER sell any foods containing animal products or derivatives, GMO ingredients, or artificial flavors or preservatives.

- A large percentage of the foods sold will be sourced from small farmers and micro growers within the community being served. This provides income to local residents and reduces the environmental impact of shipping in food from out of state/country.

- All foods containing common allergens will be clearly and prominently marked and carefully segregated within the market and deli/bakery. Additionally, many grocery and menu items will be gluten free, soy free and/or nut free. 

- A majority of the foods provided will be available in unpackaged "bulk" style, eliminating wasteful packaging and associated costs.

- All food waste produced in the market will be composted and utilized to grow more organic food. Customers will have the opportunity to drop off their food waste for composting if they do not utilize it in their own gardens.

- Volume pricing will be negotiated with farmers and suppliers, and the savings will be passed on to customers, in keeping with the mission to provide fresh, affordable and delicious food.

VegCo Ambiance

The upscale market ambiance will be an ideal community gathering place. VegCo offers an ample grocery store, deli, bakery, classroom, demonstration kitchen and indoor demonstration garden. It will offer a full spectrum of ingredients and prepared foods that make a plant-based diet convenient, fulfilling, fun, healthy and affordable, along with a host of helpful lifestyle and cooking classes.

VegCo Community

VegCo celebrates and caters to those who desire a plant-based diet for any or all of the ethical, environmental, social and health benefits it provides. VegCo is a membership based model that simplifies shopping for its members. There is a low annual fee, which can be waived by doing a few hours of volunteer farming with one of the local growers. Members benefit from the combination of "shopping local", "going green" and the ability to access a vast selection of vegan foods previously unavailable in any single food shopping venue in the area. The exquisite cuisine of the in-house deli and bakery, which will be open to the public as well as members, will serve delicious foods that will attract local residents regardless of diet preference.

VegCo Flagship Market

We have chosen to develop the flagship VegCo Market in Phoenix because it is our home and the community is underserved. Currently vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians (meat reducers) in this market must travel to multiple locations weekly to find the foods they want. Several items simply aren't available to the community either because they are not affordable or because they are not stocked in the local grocery stores. Based on a 2011 Vegetarian Resource Group Survey, there are estimated to be over 100,000 vegetarians and vegans within the Phoenix city limits. Our survey of  hundreds of local households has revealed a real desire for a local market that offers super fresh, environmentally conscious foods in a single, convenient location.

This first market will serve as the blueprint for the VegCo model. Based on this market's success, the VegCo concept will be developed in other communities nationally and internationally. Each VegCo Market will adhere to the principles described above, but will be unique and tailored to meet the needs of the community they serve.

Start-up Costs

Total start-up costs for each market are between $1,000,000-$2,000,000. We are working with a group of investors interested in building this market and expanding the model nationally and globally. Funds contributed to this campaign will be utilized toward marketing, advertising and legal costs. The main purpose of this campaign is to demonstrate demand for this concept. Once this goal is reached all contributors will receive a bonus eBook on 25 Exotic Fruits and Vegetables you may have never heard of, and interesting ways to prepare them, including guanabana, snake gourd, jackfruit, chicken of the woods mushroom, buddha's hand, salsify and more!
