Please support our plan to merge technology with a local suburban Chicago coffee shop.
Beaners Coffee, later changed to Biggby Coffee, was a local franchise that opened in downtown Arlington Heights in 2006. The original owner successfully built a loyal following of area coffee, tea and other beverage lovers. Biggby quickly became part of the community and a place where moms, teachers, business people, kids and others could meet up. In fact, regular customers soon became friends with other regular customers and the close-knit, community feel for the shop was born.
Unfortunately, the store closed in 2008. In 2010, a local family re-opened Biggby Coffee and continued to build and expand on that local following, but the store closed in April 2013 when the owner and his family moved out of state.
However, one of the people involved with Biggby wants to re-open the shop, but not as a franchise, but as a unique, hi-tech cafe that anyone, including the local residents, can enjoy.
What's an iCafe?
Basically, an iCafe is simply a cool coffee shop that will use technology to make the customer experience more convenient. Using tech gadgets, such as iPads and the many applications available to iPads, Java Beanz, the new name of the shop, will use these tools to reduce the time customers wait for their drinks and to help maintain the high-quality of their drinks. All this while customers will continue to receive the friendly customer service that they've been accustomed. So, what you'll see is a more efficient, modern coffee shop with the best customer service in the area.
Why it will work?
For several reasons, this type of shop will prosper where a franchise could not.
First, there are no franchise rules and fees, which can limit the flexibility that a small business needs to succeed in an environment where there are national chains.
Next, the idea of a local shop where friends, families and others can gather is extremely appealing. The shop will be run by a local resident who was raised in the area and has many ties to the area.
Third, one of the best features of the old shop was the baristas. Many customers came not just because of the quality drinks but because of the quality of the employees who were all extremely friendly, courteous and caring. Virtually all of the same employees will be a part of Java Beanz.
Last, improving the customer convenience through technology makes this shop unique to any others in the area, county and state. By its very nature, using technology will naturally improve customer service. How will technology do this? One of the things we're going to offer is the capability of swiping your credit card or loyalty card on an iPad to pay for your purchases. We'll even have the capability of using your iPhone to pay for your latte, coffee or espresso shot or to register your loyalty purchases.
