Who: The Ireland Immersion Weekend, is being hosted by The Irish Gift a group of volunteer artists and professionals. We see our talents as a gift that has been passed down through the generations. We want to share that gift with the world, both online & in person.
Why: This Indiegogo is a fundraising project to preserve and promote the old traditions of Ireland that are in danger of dying out. Traditions such as sean nós dancing and singing, the East Galway music tradition the Gaelic language, cooking techniques and recipes, folklore and much more.The Ireland Immersion Weekend strives to honor the Irish in Middle Tennessee and all those in the USA who have Irish roots.The Mockingbird Sings, a partner of The Irish gift is a musical that traces the roots of country music through Scottish, Irish, Delta Blues and Gospel influences.
Where: This year’s annual event, the
Ireland Immersion Weekend will be held at a beautiful plantation mansion just
outside of Nashville. The event will also be streamed online.
When: November 15th, 16th & 17th, 2013
How: Friday night begins with a VIP reception and whiskey tasting, followed by a production of "The Mockingbird Sings". The evening will conclude with an Irish seisiún with artists from Ireland. Morning festivities begin at 8:00am as guests will enjoy a real Irish breakfast in the beautiful mansion setting and mingle and chat with musicians, lecturers and performers. Later both days the hurlers will be in full-swing giving us a demonstration of the how the game and other sports are played. Guests will enjoy a delicious lunch of homemade delights (recipes all from Ireland). There will also be an opportunity to have a one-on-one or group lesson on an instrument of your choice.
Lectures are designed to gain a deeper understanding of the different facets of the Irish culture including East Galway style of music (with demonstrations on the respective instruments). The Conamara ponies have been bred in Ireland and are flown over to the Windy Isles Farms near Chicago IL. and will be on display all weekend. You will also have the opportunity to take a jaunt in a real-life donkey and cart! On Saturday, after the concert there will be an opportunity to sit and relax over a pint in the lovely surroundings of the mansion and cogitate over the the wonderful days events. Keep an eye on our kitchen, where you can learn how to cook traditional favorites like Irish Soda bread.The Irish Kitchen is open all day Saturday & Sunday for classes and food from 8am to 5pm, and each night concludes with Irish seisiún with artists from Ireland on grounds with firepit til midnight.
