Have been accepted to intern at my dream agency, the UNHCR from June-December 2013. I need financial support to make this dream come true!

Short Summary

Hi! My name is Ashley and I am a graduate student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. My passion is within the area of human rights and in particular, the rights of children.

I have experience in the field of child protection both nationally and internationally and know that I want to continue in these endeavors. Over the last two years, while attending the Monterey Institute of International Studies I have had a personal goal of working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees upon graduation. Recently, I have applied to their internship program and have been accepted to intern in June! This is truly a dream come true for me as I have been placed in the Division of International Child Protection.

I am running this campaign because well, after graduate loans - I have almost nothing to make this happen.

If I am able to raise my financial goal, I will be able to afford a flight ticket, living expenses and perform my duties in the Geneva office at the UNHCR. According to 'Business Insider', Geneva is the 10th most expensive city in the WORLD. (REALLY bad news for me).

I have worked hard, been determined and against life's odds - I have made it this far. I would hate to just stop here because I am unable to afford it! If everyone who views my campaign donates just a few dollars, I believe I can reach my goal.

Flight - $1,600 (Roundtrip)

Room Rent (utilities included)  - $5,500

Bus pass - $450.00

Groceries - $940.00

TOTAL: $8,490.00

(Estimates are rounded and determined based on the expenses of previous interns and online sources.)

- If you are able to donate $25.00 I will send you a post card from Geneva!

- If you are able to donate $100.00 I will take a photo of Lake Geneva while holding a poster of your full name and send it to you!

- If you are able to donate $500.00 I will send you an appreciation video in the location of your choosing within Geneva!

Asking for money is never easy, especially when it is to finance yourself. However I chose to go this route because I believe that your contribution will directly and literally allow me to take this opportunity to live my life-long dream of being apart of this United Nations agency. Funding is the main obstacle for me at this time. I will work hard, be frugal and embrace this educational experience.

If I were to work in the Geneva office for International Child Protection, I will be able to get a deeper sense of the current policies that our world currently adheres to as well as being able to recognize where we are falling short. We all benefit from a world in which children are protected from abuse, human trafficking and slavery and I am dedicated to looking for sustainable solutions. Please help me get to the next step.

Some people just can’t contribute, and I certainly understand that, so I ask that you pass along this link onto other folks to get the word out and make some noise! I also accept well wishes and positive energy to perservere. :)
